Appearance

Physical: Built for the deep ocean — a dense, wide-shouldered torso and a tail of nineteen feet armored in thick plates of midnight-blue scales with bioluminescent gold trim that he can suppress entirely in combat, leaving him almost invisible in deep water. His eyes are compound-adapted, with a wider field of vision than most Naga, and do not reflect light.

Clothing: The black-lacquered coral plate armor of a Tide-Warrior commander, worn at all times within the Sanctum; the armor bears no decoration other than the rank indicator of a single coiled serpent etched over the left breast.

Distinguishing Marks: Three fingers on his left hand are fused at the first joint from a volcanic hot-spring skirmish with the Dragonbinders forty years ago; he has adapted his grip and considers it a negligible limitation.

Relationships

  • High Tide-Lord Ssylara - The only political authority Krix fully respects, because Ssylara once reversed a military decision he had made with correct strategic reasoning and turned out to be right — an event Krix considers the most important tactical lesson of his career
  • River Guard Captain Uxeth Deepcoil - A collegial rivalry between separate military branches — Krix and Uxeth disagree on the proper role of the River Guard in Sanctum defense and have been having the same argument, productively, for twenty years
  • Coral Architect Vreth Coralshaper - A working relationship built on mutual respect for competence — Krix provides troop movement requirements, Vreth integrates them into structural design without complaint, and neither man wastes the other's time

Personality

  • Traits: Strategically patient in ways that can appear passive until the moment he acts, at which point he acts with total commitment; regards unnecessary violence as a sign of poor planning rather than weakness
  • Mannerisms: Maps exits before anything else in any room he enters; speaks in the clipped brevity of deep-water military Nagari where every syllable conserves breathing capacity

Backstory

Krix served as a standard River Guard spear-carrier for fifteen years before being selected for the Tide-Warrior Corps on the basis of a training evaluation that noted, among other things, that he had never been surprised by an opponent in any simulated engagement over three years of observation. He rose through the Corps ranks not through connections but through a sequence of correctly-predicted tactical situations that his superiors initially dismissed as luck. After leading the defense of the Abyssal Sanctum during an unprecedented Dragonbinder assault on the volcanic hot-springs boundary, he was given the commander's post. The Dragonbinders have not tested that boundary since.

Daily Life

Krix conducts predawn drills with the Tide-Warrior Corps before the rest of the Sanctum wakes, then reviews patrol reports from the overnight Current-Eel relay network. Morning briefings cover territorial status across all monitored waterway boundaries. He spends afternoons training the Corps' sea-serpent mounts, which he considers as important as training the warriors themselves. Evenings he reads historical records of every significant Naga military engagement in the Codex of Currents, annotating them with tactical analysis that he submits to no one — it is purely personal research.

Secret

Krix knows the location of an unmapped underwater passage that exits the Abyssal Sanctum into Dragonbinder territory — a passage that was used once, by him, to infiltrate a Dragonbinder volcanic facility and retrieve intelligence that prevented the hot-springs war from escalating. He went alone, without authorization. The intelligence he retrieved ended the conflict. He has never told anyone how he got it, because the passage also runs in the other direction.

Story Hooks

  • 1 A Dragonbinder ambassador arrives at the Abyssal Sanctum with an offer — peace, permanent boundary recognition, and trade access — conditional on a single meeting with Krix personally, by name, with no explanation of how they know who he is.
  • 2 The unmapped passage is discovered by a Corps trainee during a routine deep-water drill, and the trainee's report reaches the Council before Krix can intercept it.

Narrative Value

Krix gives players access to Naga military strategy and the deep-water defensive architecture of the Abyssal Sanctum. His secret passage creates a literal backdoor into one of the world's most secure locations, with implications for any heist, infiltration, or diplomatic crisis storyline.
