Commonly described traits include Traits: Performatively confident in artistic contexts, genuinely uncertain in political or social navigation; regards the Council of Tides with the specific contempt of someone who has watched political decisions destroy cultural projects she spent years building, Mannerisms: Moves through every space as though being observed, which she always is — her bioluminescent patterns respond to her emotional state and she has never fully learned to suppress them, so her feelings are literally visible to any literate Naga, and Voice: Expressive and variable in Nagari, using vocal tones that reinforce the bioluminescent signals her body emits; her Landoryan Common is more controlled, and she finds the performance of opacity refreshing.

Naga Age: 54 Female

"The Council can approve a subject. It cannot approve a vision. Those arrive without permission and leave the same way."

Appearance

Physical: Striking and deliberately so — her scales are a deep orange-vermillion that she has enhanced with decades of selective Venom-Painting application to her own skin, creating permanent bioluminescent gold filigree patterns across her entire torso and upper tail that pulse rhythmically as she breathes. She is the only Naga currently living who has successfully self-applied body Venom-Painting without causing toxin damage.

Clothing: Minimal — a structured shoulder wrap of Pearl-Infused Silk in the deep purple of concentrated venom-essence, selected because it frames her body-painting rather than competing with it.

Distinguishing Marks: Her full body is the distinguishing mark.

Relationships

  • High Venom-Priest Ssolveth - A complicated mutual dependence — Ssolveth's religious declaration saved her mural and gives her some protection from the Collective's authority; she considers him a useful institutional shield and he considers her a useful demonstration that religious law is broader than its critics claim; neither has illusions about the other's motives
  • Scale-Dance Student Thessyk - Her most naturally gifted student, a young Naga who uses movement to process ideas that formal theology cannot contain; she has not told them that she recognized the pattern in their Scale-Dance as the same movement sequence depicted in the creation murals she studied as an apprentice
  • Aqua-Envoy Laethyn Saltwhisper - A friend of convenience — Laethyn commissions occasional diplomatic gifts from Myrre and brings her rare venom-pigment compounds from overseas contacts; their conversations are some of the only ones Myrre has that are not about art or institutional politics

Personality

Backstory

Myrre trained as a Venom-Painter under the eldest practitioner in the Coral-Throne Collective before being expelled from the apprenticeship for the unauthorized use of the Collective's venom-pigment stores for a piece she had not received approval to create. The piece — a forty-foot Pearl-Mosaic mural depicting the creation myth of the First Coil from the perspective of the water rather than the serpent — was completed overnight and installed in the Coral-Throne public plaza before anyone could stop her. The Council ordered it removed; the High Venom-Priest declared it sacred under religious law. It is still there. Myrre has been both tolerated and surveilled by the Collective ever since.

Daily Life

Myrre works in her private studio during the morning hours, developing new pigment compounds using diluted venom-essences of her own formulation. Afternoons she teaches Scale-Dance to younger Naga at the Coral-Throne performance terrace, which she considers as important as her visual art because scale-movement is a language the body reads before the mind. Evenings she attends or organizes Night of the Deep Glow events, where bioluminescent art installations are performed live. She sleeps irregularly and at odd hours.

Secret

Myrre's original unauthorized mural was not entirely her own design. She received a vision during a night of extreme venom-pigment exposure that showed her the mural complete, down to the brushstroke. She followed the vision exactly. She does not know whether to interpret this as artistic inspiration, venom-poisoning, a genuine message from Venara, or something that has no name in any theology she knows. She has been trying to reproduce the conditions of the vision for twenty years without success.

Story Hooks

  • 1 A Scale-Dance performance by Myrre's students accidentally recreates, in movement, a sequence depicted in a water-memory crystal that is three hundred years older than the performance tradition she is teaching — and no one has ever connected the two forms before.
  • 2 Myrre receives a gift of venom-pigment from an anonymous source — a compound she has never encountered, which produces colors that do not exist in any Naga palette. When she uses it on a test surface, the image that forms is not one she chose.

Narrative Value

Myrre bridges the sacred and the artistic in Naga culture — her uninvited vision connects the creative life of the Coral-Throne to the deeper mythological currents of the civilization. She is an entry point for any story involving Naga religion, artistic tradition, or the boundary between inspiration and divine contact.
