Appearance
Physical: Thin and extraordinarily still, with the quality of someone who has spent two centuries in sustained low-movement practice; his skin is a deep pearl-grey with bioluminescent markings so faint they are only visible in near-total darkness, pulsing at a rhythm much slower than normal Ocearan patterns — approximately one pulse every twelve seconds, as measured by two physicians who asked and one who didn't.
Clothing: Unadorned deep-current wool in undyed grey, worn loose; he carries nothing except a smooth pressure-crystal sphere that he holds in one hand during meditation and which he claims has not been set down in forty years.
Distinguishing Marks: He produces almost no sound when he moves — not through effort but as a consequence of the contemplative practice that has altered his baseline physical state; people often do not notice when he enters a room.
Relationships
- Thalindra Deepcurrent - The High Hydromancer who sends him questions through discreet channels rather than visiting directly; he answers them honestly and she finds the answers useful and unsettling in approximately equal measure.
- Velaira Tiderite - The Temple Officiant who consults him on the theological implications of what the Temple is observing; their conversations are the only ones he initiates rather than waiting to receive.

Backstory
Morrow entered the Deep-Rest practice at forty, following a vent-collapse rescue in which he was trapped for six weeks in a sealed corridor with depleted pressure. The isolation altered his relationship with silence permanently. He has practiced the Deep-Rest disciplines for two hundred and twenty years, developing depths the formal practitioners' community considers extraordinary and the Ministry considers irrelevant. He has been asked three times to testify at Tide Tribunal proceedings on the grounds that he routinely knows things he has no institutional access to. He has testified all three times. He was correct all three times. The Tribunal has declined to classify how.
Daily Life
Morrow maintains the Sanctum's contemplative environment — the water temperature, current-flow patterns, and mineral composition that support deep practice — and receives students in the early morning before the citadel begins its active cycle. He spends most of each day in his own sustained practice and sees no visitors after midday. He eats minimally, at no fixed time, and has not attended any official gathering in sixty years without specific request from a Council member. He has received four such requests in that period and attended all four, which the Council found more alarming than reassuring.
Secret
During deep contemplation Morrow can perceive the tidal currents' accumulated experiential memory — a somatic knowing that sometimes resolves into specific information. Six months ago, the deep current's memory began carrying something new: a pattern of distress unlike anything he has encountered in two centuries of practice. It does not match any creature or geological event in his experience of the current's emotional content. Something very old and very large is becoming aware of the civilization built above it.
Story Hooks
- 1 Morrow sends a single compressed message through the Tide-Glyph network to Thalindra: 'It is waking. The question is whether it is remembering or discovering.' Thalindra needs someone to go to the Sanctum and find out what he means before she decides whether to act on it.
- 2 A student in the Sanctum enters a deep-practice session and cannot be roused; Morrow is beside them and is also unresponsive, but both are physiologically stable — and both are producing faint sub-audible vocalizations in the pattern Sylvar has been receiving from the trench.
Narrative Value
Morrow provides a contemplative, non-institutional access point to the deepest layer of the setting's central mystery — through him the pattern of awakening can be felt before it is understood, giving the revelations emotional weight before they acquire narrative specificity.
