Appearance
Physical: Strongly built with the posture of someone who has spent centuries being walked toward by people who then changed their minds — she holds herself with an economy of motion that reads as patience and is in fact readiness. Her lion body is a deep charcoal with iron-grey mane.
Clothing: The Enforcer's formal sash in the deep crimson of the Covenant seal, worn always; over it, in working contexts, a weathered tactical harness with document cases that she has maintained for nine centuries without replacement.
Distinguishing Marks: A pair of small scars at the base of each ear — self-inflicted in a ritual she performed when she accepted the Enforcer post, indicating willingness to hear evidence she would prefer not to. She mentions this if asked and does not elaborate further.
Relationships
- Aeloria Sunbreak - Yenarath treats her exactly as she treats every Sphinx she might investigate, which Aeloria finds correct rather than offensive; Aeloria has neither impeded nor assisted her three pending cases, which Yenarath has noted and finds the most interesting data point about the High Riddle-Keeper she currently holds
- Morthex the Hollow - The oldest active case on her record, reopened twice; the most recent reopening was triggered by evidence she received anonymously that predates her tenure and should not exist in its current form; she has not concluded that Morthex sent it
- Gorthex Siltclaw - The Riddle Duel champion she calls as second in cases requiring the final riddle mechanism; she respects his record absolutely and trusts him precisely as far as any tool can be trusted, which she considers the appropriate degree

Backstory
Yenarath did not choose the role of Riddle Covenant Enforcer — the Council appointed her after the previous Enforcer died mid-investigation into a coercion charge, and she was the first Sphinx to arrive at the scene. She has occupied the post for nine centuries and become, through accumulated case precedent, the continent's foremost authority on what the Covenant actually prohibits versus what it has been interpreted to prohibit by councils with political interests. She is precise about this distinction. Her three pending investigations all involve sitting or former Council members. She has not yet determined whether the cases are connected, but she has determined that someone powerful hopes she will not.
Daily Life
Yenarath does not maintain a predictable schedule — she learned within her first century that a predictable schedule creates predictable absences from specific locations that investigators should not be predictably absent from. She conducts interviews without advance notice, reviews evidence in rotating locations across all three citadels, and files case updates in a sealed record format she designed herself, with a verification system that reveals tampering without alerting the tamperer. She has used this system to identify three separate unauthorized access attempts in nine centuries. None were prosecuted; the information was filed for later use.
Secret
The three pending investigations share a single anomaly: in each case, the alleged Covenant violation was reported by the same anonymous source, using a notation format that exists in only one document in the entire Library — a pre-publication draft of the Covenant itself, from before the Council's final revisions. The draft is in sealed storage. Yenarath has not requested access because she does not yet want the Council to know she has made the connection.
Story Hooks
- 1 Yenarath approaches the party as material witnesses to something they observed without realizing it was relevant to a Covenant investigation; her questions reveal a pattern across three events the party experienced separately that, assembled, constitute evidence of the same crime committed three times by the same party.
- 2 She asks the party to carry a sealed evidence package to a location outside the Peaks, which she cannot travel to without triggering the very surveillance she is investigating; she tells them what is in it and exactly what will happen if they open it, and then waits to see if they open it.
Narrative Value
Yenarath is the Peaks' internal accountability mechanism — the structural counterweight to Council authority. Her three pending cases create a slow-burn political thriller thread, while her precise methodology makes her a reliable truth-seeking resource whose conclusions are difficult to argue with.
