Spring (Storm-Wake)

The Spring of Storm-Wake is a ceremonial artifact used to formally open the Siege-Building Season at the start of spring, when the clans begin constructing new siege-engines and repairing fortifications after the winter Storm-Rest period. The artifact is a Storm-Capture resonance vessel — a large iron urn inscribed with storm-glyph runes on the exterior and fitted with internal Storm-Thistle filaments that accumulate passive static charge from the spring electrical storms that sweep the Iron-Vein Range as the season opens. When the accumulated charge reaches the threshold set by the runic inscription, the urn discharges in a controlled burst that the attending Stone-Keeper reads as a signal that the Storm-Mother has sanctioned the resumption of active forge-work and military construction. The discharge is accompanied by a crack of thunder from inside the urn that echoes through stone-flooring for several seconds — the sound that gives the season its name: Storm-Wake, the waking of the forge-thunder after winter's silence.

Storm-Wake urns are produced by a collaborative effort between Runic Engravers who apply the storm-glyph exterior and Iron-Blood Alchemists who install and secure the Storm-Thistle filament matrix inside. Each urn is calibrated to a specific charge threshold that reflects the Storm-Season intensity typical of its clan's geographic position in the Iron-Vein Range — highland clans near the Blacksmoke Peaks require higher thresholds than lowland River Clans.

Overview

Spring (Storm-Wake) is a uncommon ritual object in Landorya. Its known origin is Storm-Wake urns are produced by a collaborative effort between Runic Engravers who apply the storm-glyph exterior and Iron-Blood Alchemists who install and secure the Storm-Thistle filament matrix inside. Each urn is calibrated to a specific charge threshold that reflects the Storm-Season intensity typical of its clan's geographic position in the Iron-Vein Range — highland clans near the Blacksmoke Peaks require higher thresholds than lowland River Clans.. Its most cited abilities include Accumulates static charge from spring electrical storms via Storm-Thistle filaments, Controlled discharge produces a deep resonance through stone-flooring audible as a thunder-crack throughout a clan-hold, and The discharge timing is read by Stone-Keepers as indication of storm-spirit approval for beginning the Siege-Building Season.

History

The Storm-Wake ceremony is one of the oldest continuous Orcish rituals, predating the formalized Stone-Keeper Order. In pre-Confederation records it appears as a clan chieftain's personal ceremony rather than a Stone-Keeper function, with the urn filled with captured storm-water rather than accumulated static charge. The current form, using Storm-Thistle filaments and static accumulation, was developed during the Storm Age when the Stone-Keeper Order systematized the relationship between weather-magic and forge-schedule.

Powers & Abilities

  • Accumulates static charge from spring electrical storms via Storm-Thistle filaments
  • Controlled discharge produces a deep resonance through stone-flooring audible as a thunder-crack throughout a clan-hold
  • The discharge timing is read by Stone-Keepers as indication of storm-spirit approval for beginning the Siege-Building Season
  • Residual charge in the urn after the opening discharge is used to power the first runic inscription of the season, blessing the new siege-engine components
  • Stone-Keepers who tend the urn through its charge period develop a seasonal sensitivity to incoming storm patterns useful for planning construction timelines
