Earth-Pulse Crystals
Also known as: Tectonic Crystals, Deep-Vein Crystals, Geo-Stones
Earth-Pulse Crystals are naturally occurring geomantic formations found exclusively in the deep-rock strata of the Granite Spine mountain range, their unique properties arising from the intersection of intense tectonic pressure, geothermal heat, and the residual magical current that the Talamhari called the Deep Vein — the slow, planet-wide flow of earth-elemental energy through bedrock. Over geological timescales this combination causes ordinary quartz formations to develop a crystalline lattice structure capable of absorbing, storing, and slowly releasing tectonic energy in controlled pulses, making them in effect natural batteries for geomantic power. A large Earth-Pulse Crystal humming at full charge can be felt by a trained geomancer as a distinct low-frequency vibration from several metres away, and the energy stored within can be drawn upon to amplify, sustain, or trigger geomantic workings that would otherwise require the caster's full concentration and stamina.

- Uncommon
- Origin
- Earth-Pulse Crystals are a product of the Granite Spine's geological history rather than any civilisation's manufacture, forming over thousands of years wherever the deep-rock conditions align correctly. The Talamhari did not create them; they discovered them during the earliest deep-mining operations and quickly recognised their properties through the reports of Vein-Seeker miners who noticed their geomantic sensitivity heightening near certain crystal pockets. The Founding Myth of Heartforge holds that the Earth Mother Gara-Stone's gift of the first living crystal heart was, in literal geological terms, the first Earth-Pulse Crystal — the seed from which all Talamhari geomantic practice grew.
- Current Owner
- Earth-Pulse Crystals in their natural state remain embedded in the deep-rock strata of the Granite Spine, accessible to the Dwarven Holds that now steward those territories. Smaller worked examples are held in the archives of the Runic Order of the Deep, where they are used for research into Talamhari geomantic techniques. Traders occasionally bring surface-recovered fragments to market in Dwarven Hold towns, though the Stone Council of the Dwarven confederation maintains that extraction without a registered Vein-Seeker licence is a violation of the Granite Codex precedent they inherited from the Talamhari.

History
Earth-Pulse Crystals were the foundational material technology of Talamhari geomancy, present at every stage of the civilisation's development. In the early confederation period they were used primarily as field tools by Vein-Seekers mapping new excavation territories. As the Ministry of Deep-Works developed more sophisticated applications, large formations were incorporated into the Stone-Glyph Network relay nodes that allowed message transmission between city-states. The Ministry of Defense embedded smaller crystals into the chest-plates of Earth-Wardens to provide a supplementary geomantic reservoir during extended defensive actions. At the civilisation's peak, the Earth-Pulse Generator networks that powered lighting and heat distribution across Heartforge and other major cities were all built around central Crystal formations of exceptional size. After the fall of the Talamhari, Dwarven engineers spent three generations reverse-engineering the Generator networks before mastering the conversion rune-arrays, and even today some Dwarven Holds acknowledge operating on original Talamhari Crystal formations that have been continuously active for over two thousand years.
Powers & Abilities
- ✦ Stores accumulated tectonic energy that a licensed geomancer can draw upon to amplify the range, duration, or intensity of an earth-shaping working without expending equivalent personal stamina
- ✦ Emits a passive low-frequency vibration when charged that trained Vein-Seekers and Ore-Sprites can detect through solid rock, serving as a navigational beacon in unmapped tunnels
- ✦ Provides a stable power reservoir for rune-inscription work requiring sustained magical current, eliminating the hand-tremor that affects geomancers working at the edge of their personal capacity
- ✦ Can be fashioned into Earth-Pulse Generators when paired with conversion rune-arrays, converting their stored charge into low-level magical energy for city infrastructure
- ✦ Proximity to a charged Earth-Pulse Crystal significantly accelerates the bonding time of new rune-inscriptions into stone, reducing the curing period from days to hours
Curse or Drawback
An overcharged Earth-Pulse Crystal, one that has accumulated more tectonic energy than its lattice structure can safely contain, releases that energy in an uncontrolled discharge that mimics a localised earthquake. The Talamhari Granite Codex mandated regular discharge inspections of all Crystals kept in residential or forge districts, and the Stone Tribunal's records include several cases of negligent property owners fined or exiled after an overcharged Crystal caused structural damage. The Ministry of Deep-Works maintained dedicated Discharge Chambers in all major cities for the controlled bleeding of excess energy from oversaturated formations.
