A Veil-Ranger… Key abilities include Vapor Dissolution: can become completely incorporeal mist at will, dispersing across an area or flowing through cracks and barriers, Partial Manifestation: can maintain selective solidity, keeping forepaws physical for grip while its body remains mist, and Scent-Lock Tracking: retains the ability to track by scent even in vapor form, following prey across any terrain.

The Mist-Fox resembles a slender silver-grey fox in its fully materialized state, with fur that appears perpetually damp and eyes the luminescent pale blue of the Silver-Mist Marshes at night. When it begins to dissolve its physical form, the process starts at the tail and moves forward, its body becoming increasingly translucent until only its eyes remain visible as two floating blue lights before those too vanish, leaving no trace of its passage.

The Mist-Fox is highly intelligent and deeply loyal to its bonded companion, with a mischievous streak it reserves exclusively for situations its bond-partner would find amusing. With strangers it is watchful and elusive, almost never permitting physical contact until months of regular interaction have built familiarity. It communicates through a precise vocabulary of postures, ear positions, and selective materialization that bonded Veil-Rangers learn to read as fluently as spoken language.

The bonding ceremony between a Veil-Ranger and a Mist-Fox is one of the Fey Court's most intimate rituals, conducted in the Silver-Mist Marshes at dawn when the fox chooses its own partner by remaining materialized in front of them long enough to make eye contact, an act that for a Mist-Fox represents profound trust. Rangers describe the bond's activation as feeling a second set of senses open alongside their own, not intrusive but present, like a second awareness that supplements without overwriting. The bond persists until the death of either party, and the surviving party is said to never fully bond again.
