Star-Moth belongs to magic-feeder in the Landorya bestiary. Its usual habitat is Star-Moths congregate in the Star-Moth Rookery within the upper reaches of the Crystal-Veil Caves, where the concentration of Twilight Crystals produces the highest sustained magical energy density in the realm. Small populations also establish temporarily on the Floating Luminant Islands during the Starbloom Moss flowering season.. Star-Moths are the primary biological source of Star-Thread, the rarest component of Veil-Silk. Their collection and management is overseen by a specialized guild of Veil-Weavers… Key abilities include Magic Absorption: feeds directly on ambient magical energy, thriving in environments of high Veil-energy density, Starlight Trail: flight path leaves persistent luminescent traces used by Fey navigators to map magical current flows, and Cocoon Spinning: produces cocoons of Star-Thread, the rarest and most magically conductive component of Veil-Silk.

The Star-Moth is a palm-sized moth with wings so dark they appear to absorb light, against which the scattered luminescent scales along their edges create the impression of a night sky in miniature carried on each wing. In flight the moth trails a fine mist of starlight that persists for several seconds before fading, producing visible patterns in air that Fey artists have studied for compositional inspiration. Its antennae are proportionally very long and constantly in motion, sampling ambient magical density.

Star-Moths are not individually distinctive in personality but display collective behaviors that suggest a shared sensitivity to magical conditions. Populations cluster in areas of stable, high-density magic and disperse when they detect approaching instability, their movements serving as an observable indicator of Weave health. Individual moths do not form bonds with Fey but do not flee from them either, permitting close observation and the careful collection of shed scale material.

The discovery that Star-Moth cocoons produce Star-Thread is attributed to Elder Seer Caelindra Voidwhisper's predecessor, who noticed during a Cave research visit that Veil-Silk samples containing even trace amounts of Star-Thread resisted magical alteration at rates far exceeding the non-Star-Thread fabric. The subsequent development of a systematic Star-Thread harvesting practice transformed Veil-Silk from a luxury fabric into the foundational material for Glimmerguard armor and diplomatic regalia. Voidwhisper herself maintains that the moths understood what they were contributing before the Fey did.
