The Threshold Golem stands twice the height of a Mystaran, its body assembled from dense slabs of Mystara's distinctive mist-stone, a pale, semi-translucent mineral that seems to trap wisps of fog within its structure. Arcane Glyphs identical in style to Mystaran Psychic Marks are carved across every surface of its form and pulse with a cold blue-white light that brightens whenever a threat is detected.

Threshold Golems have no personality in the conventional sense, they are deliberate, relentless, and entirely without mercy or malice, executing their purpose with the pure mechanical certainty of a lock refusing an unmatched key. They do not pursue, they do not negotiate, and they do not tire.

The design of the Threshold Golem is attributed to an ancient Conclave of the Wise operating centuries before the current age, who encoded into each Golem's glyphs a reflection of the Psychic Marks borne by its original creator, meaning that each Golem is, in a philosophical sense, a permanent extension of a specific Mystaran's magical identity. When Drakonians once tested the borders of Mystara's outer reaches, it was a line of Threshold Golems that met them, and the encounter is recorded in Drakonian war-histories as one of the few engagements their forces declined to press further. The Ministry of Arcana periodically updates the attunement parameters of active Golems to account for new magical signatures, a delicate process that requires the personal involvement of a senior Conclave member. There are whispered accounts of Golems whose creator-glyphs have partially faded with age, leaving them operating on incomplete directives, the Ministry of Arcana considers locating and re-attuning these ancient units a matter of ongoing priority.
