An Aether-Wyrm is a vast, serpentine entity with no physical body in the conventional sense, its form is a sinuous column of condensed aetheric energy, iridescent and translucent, stretching hundreds of feet, with a suggestion of scales formed from interlocking geometric patterns of pure light. Where its eyes would be, two points of brilliant white radiance burn with unmistakable intelligence, and its passage warps perception so that observers see faint afterimages of possible futures trailing in its wake.

Aether-Wyrms are profoundly ancient and inscrutable, communicating not in words but in cascading floods of cosmic understanding that can shatter an unprepared mind. They are neither aggressive nor benevolent by mortal measures, they are forces of balance, intervening only when the fundamental threads of aether are genuinely threatened.

The few recorded communion accounts describe Star-Sages emerging changed, not damaged, but fundamentally expanded, capable of perceiving aetheric threads invisible to all others. It is said that the last Grand Luminary of the Order communed with an Aether-Wyrm the night before the civilization's fall and received a vision of everything that would be lost, and chose, even knowing, to face it. The Mystarans believe at least one Aether-Wyrm still coils at the deepest convergence beneath Mystara, dormant but watchful, and that the day it manifests again will mark either the restoration of the Five Great Mysteries or the final unraveling of the Veil. Among the Ancient Five, only the Order of the Starlight ever made contact with these entities; the other civilizations knew of them only through Starlight accounts and regarded them with a mixture of awe and profound unease.
