Magic & Arcane Infrastructure
The arcane infrastructure of the Desert Scholars is built on the concept of distributed resonance: rather than concentrating magical power in a single great source, the Scholars have developed a network of small, interconnected nodes that amplify each other through harmonic alignment. This architecture is explicitly modelled on the desert itself, where sand-mana does not pool in one location but flows in continuous, shifting currents through the granular substrate.
Memory-Obelisks — towering stone pillars inscribed with layered Dune-Script — serve as the anchor points of the communal memory system. Each obelisk is infused at construction with a base layer of sand-mana drawn from a full Lunar Quota, giving it a passive resonance that Memory Crystals throughout the surrounding khanate can tune to. When a Scholar's implant crystal synchronises overnight, it is pulling from and contributing to the obelisk's resonance field. The result is a living, continuously updated collective archive that no individual Scholar fully controls and no single catastrophe can fully destroy.
The Sun-Siphon Towers, positioned at the highest points of each Madrassa-Khanate, perform dual duty as defensive weapons and as the primary energy input for the Solar-Sand Cell network during the Burning season. When the Astral Vanguard requires a Solar Flare Bombardment for defensive purposes, the towers redirect their accumulated charge through a Star-Blade focusing array, producing a directed energy discharge capable of liquefying incoming Drakonian war-machines at range. The system requires three fully qualified Sand-Mancers operating in concert and a minimum of six hours' charge accumulation, which means it is a weapon of fortification rather than campaign — but within the Scholar cities, it is considered essentially impenetrable.
