Luminara sat at the heart of the Astral Plateau, a high-altitude tableland permanently above the cloud line and surrounded by sheer cliffs. Its radiating layout followed the geometry of Aetheris Major, with each district corresponding to one of the constellation's seven primary stars, all connected by elevated crystalline walkways.

Perched above the cloud line, Luminara enjoyed a perpetually clear sky, both day and night, due to a natural aetheric phenomenon that thinned atmospheric haze over the plateau. Temperatures were crisp and thin-aired, with biting winds along the cliff edges but relative calm at the city's aetheric-warmed core.

Founded 2,600 years before the Age of the Celestial Order, Luminara grew from a single observatory into the governing heart of the Order of the Starlight (Aether), one of the Ancient Five civilizations. Star-Emissaries departed from its Aether-Gates bearing prophetic scrolls and star-charts to allied civilizations including the Talamhari, Zephyrians, Pyrakians, and Oceara. The city endured as the seat of the Conclave of Luminaries until the Order's decline, its legacy carried forward by the Mystarans and their Conclave of the Wise.

It is said that when the seventh and final crystalline spire of Luminara was raised, the constellation Aetheris Major itself blazed three times brighter for a full night, as though the heavens acknowledged their reflection in stone and light. Scholars of the Conclave of Luminaries recorded a more troubling tradition: that on the eve of the Order's decline, the prismatic cascades across all seven districts shifted from white to a deep, mournful violet, a color no natural starlight could produce, and held that hue for seven consecutive nights.
