Geography
Situated at the crossroads of Heartforge's three main arterial tunnels — the Stone-Road from the deep forges, the Mineral-Way from the eastern mines, and the Vaulted Pass connecting residential warrens — the Crystal Plaza occupies a natural cavern widened over generations by successive generations of geomancers. Its floor is a mosaic of polished granite and turquoise aetherite tiles laid in the Three-Peak pattern, the symbol of Talamhari unity. The Echo Hall opens off its northern edge, while three descending staircases connect to the market cellars below.
Climate
Maintained by a geothermal duct network that vents warm air through grates in the plaza floor, the Crystal Plaza holds a steady comfortable warmth year-round regardless of surface conditions. The crystal roof permits diffused light even through mountain storms, and its lattice traps enough heat that the plaza is frequently several degrees warmer than the surrounding tunnel network, drawing residents out of their warrens on the coldest winter deep-cycles.

History
The Crystal Plaza was established during the second century of Heartforge's founding, when population growth in the upper tiers demanded a centralised civic space. The original open cavern was unspectacular; it was Forge-Master Keldor's apprentice, a geomancer named Shaela of the Third Vein, who proposed lacing the vaulted ceiling with salvaged crystal from an exhausted quartz seam, turning structural necessity into an architectural wonder. Over the following centuries the plaza was repeatedly expanded and re-tiled after seismic events. During the Draconic Siege of the Eastern Veins, it served as a triage centre and refugee shelter when lower tunnel districts were temporarily sealed. The Harvest of Crystals festival has been inaugurated in the plaza every autumn since the Age of the Second Confederation.
Legend & Lore
Stone-Scribes maintain that on the night the Earth Mother Gara-Stone bestowed the first living crystal heart upon the Talamhari, the very cavern that would become the Crystal Plaza glowed of its own accord, the raw quartz in its walls humming a chord audible only to those with geomantic sensitivity. It is said that on certain autumn nights, when the temperature differential between the duct air and the mountain rock reaches exactly the right balance, the crystal roof emits that same deep chord unprompted, and any geomancer present involuntarily senses the earth's pulse more clearly than at any other time or place. The Runic Pilgrimage route traditionally concludes with a vigil in the plaza at such moments.
Life & Culture
The plaza hums from the second morning bell to well past the evening hearth-call. Vendors of runic iron, geothermal glass, crystal-infused textiles, and mineral-fungi compete for ear and coin from dawn shift workers emerging from the lower forges. By midday the Merchant Columns are ringed three deep, and the Storyteller's Dais draws clusters of apprentices, elders, and off-duty Stone Guard alike for the afternoon histories. Evening sees the stalls folded and torches lit in recessed sconces, transforming the plaza into a quieter gathering place where clan groups share food near the floor vents and exchange news from across the Hold's tunnel network. The Crystal Plaza is considered the single location where all of Heartforge's otherwise distinct wardholds feel themselves part of one city.
