Appearance

Physical: Massive, heavily scarred; scales are the deep black-blue of abyssal water with irregular patches where scale regrowth after combat has come in slightly off-color, pale silver-grey; bioluminescent nodes burn a cold, barely perceptible indigo — restrained through decades of tactical discipline

Clothing: Full Living Coral plate armor customized for deep-water pressure resistance; carries a venom-lance — a spear whose tip releases paralytic compound on impact — and wears a captain's rank token of threaded Tide-Pearls at his throat

Distinguishing Marks: A jagged scar bisects his left eye socket; the eye beneath is intact but faintly clouded. His tail carries twenty-three tally marks carved into the scales — each a confirmed combat kill logged per Tide-Warrior tradition

Relationships

  • Orrhyn Venomcraft - Deep professional respect; Orrhyn's laboratory is Korrash's primary security responsibility, and the elder's frankness about the venom experiments' dangers is the kind of honesty he values
  • Lyxeth Poisonmage - Complex relationship — he recognizes her combat talent, trains with her regularly, and keeps a private risk assessment of how dangerous she would be if her loyalties shifted
  • Yrreth Deepscholar - The scholar is his most frequent information source on Abyssal threats; Korrash respects their knowledge and finds their social unpredictability professionally irritating

Backstory

Korrash entered Tide-Warrior training at seventeen from Pearlspire's lower wards, driven by the same combination of capability and limited alternative that produces many of the Sanctum's best guards. He distinguished himself during the Abyssal Incursion at age thirty-two, when a deep-sea creature of unusual size breached the Sanctum's outer perimeter; he killed it single-handedly after his unit was incapacitated by its toxin spray, then organized the evacuation of the venom laboratory while wounded. He was promoted to Captain at age seventy and has since restructured the guard rotation from a ceremonial function to a genuine combat-ready unit, a change that made him unpopular with older Tide-Warriors and necessary to the Sanctum's current security.

Daily Life

Korrash conducts a pre-dawn perimeter walk of the Abyssal Sanctum's outer walls every morning without fail, reviewing overnight sensor readings from Hydro-Rune alarm markers. Guard briefings are held at dawn, concise and information-dense. He trains personally with every guard rotation across the week, maintaining his own combat readiness. Afternoons are devoted to security assessments, reviewing vulnerabilities and updating threat protocols. He rarely attends social functions and keeps Venom Communion brief.

Secret

During the Abyssal Incursion forty-eight years ago, a second breach occurred at the Sanctum's scholar wing that Korrash sealed by collapsing a tunnel — with a junior guard still inside. The guard's body was never recovered. The official report listed the death as a direct creature attack. Korrash made the right tactical call by every standard he was trained on. He has not been certain of that since.

Story Hooks

  • 1 Excavation for a new Sanctum expansion unearths the sealed tunnel and the remains of the junior guard — along with evidence of how the tunnel was actually sealed — threatening to surface Korrash's forty-year-old choice
  • 2 Korrash brings a suspicious security concern to the players quietly: someone has been copying the guard rotation schedule and he needs it investigated without official channels, because he suspects the leak is inside the Sanctum's own administration

Narrative Value

Korrash embodies the moral cost of command — a character who made a necessary and devastating call and has carried the unresolved weight of it for decades. He provides the Abyssal Sanctum with credible physical menace and a deeply human dilemma beneath the armor.
