OSSKETH THE BRANDED
NagaExile and Former Poison-Mage Apprentice
OSSKETH THE BRANDED serves as Exile and Former Poison-Mage Apprentice within Naga. OSSKETH THE BRANDED is identified as Naga. Primary residence: Delta-Haven. Commonly described traits include Traits: Carries the specific bitterness of someone who believes they were right and paid for it anyway; not violent, not broken, but operating under the permanent low-grade tension of someone who cannot fully trust any institution, Mannerisms: Never sits with their back to an entrance; has developed the habit of tasting the air constantly with their damaged venom-glands, which produces incomplete signals — they describe it as living with permanent static, and Voice: Low and careful, with the deliberate cadence of someone who learned that speaking imprecisely had consequences; their Nagari carries the formal register of their Poison-Mage training, which sounds incongruous coming from an exile.
"The Brand was meant to mark me as a liar. It turns out it just marks me as someone who was inconvenient."

Appearance
Physical: Once powerfully built, Ossketh now carries the diminished frame of chronic venom-gland damage — their upper body is thinner than their age suggests and their twelve-foot tail, unusually short for their age, has patches of dulled, flaking scale where the bioluminescent cells died in the punishment ritual. The remaining living scales are a mottled rust-red.
Clothing: Layered wrappings of plain undyed cloth that cover most of their torso and upper tail, concealing the damage; they wear no affiliation markers and have cut off the sigil rings that once identified their Poison-Mage training rank.
Distinguishing Marks: The Brand — a scar across the left side of their neck where a heated coral brand was applied as the punishment ritual's closing act — is always visible, as it extends above any collar.
Relationships
- Medicinal Venom-Sage Yssara Poisonbloom - The only Naga authority figure Ossketh currently trusts, and only partially; Yssara treats them without judgment and has made measurable progress on gland restoration, which Ossketh experiences as almost intolerably hopeful
- River Merchant Nexith the Drifter - An irregular employer who gives Ossketh dock work without asking about their background; Nexith knows the background anyway and has never mentioned it, which Ossketh reads as either kindness or leverage
- Council Junior Member Rethiss - The son of the Council member who presided over Ossketh's false conviction — Rethiss was an adolescent when it happened and has sought Ossketh out twice in the last year, claiming to want to discuss his parent's record; Ossketh has not decided whether to speak with him

Backstory
Ossketh was a third-year Poison-Mage apprentice at the Abyssal Sanctum when they reported a supervisor for unauthorized lethal venom synthesis in violation of the Venom Accord. The supervisor was a junior Council member's nephew. The investigation was conducted by the same junior Council member. The supervisor received a formal warning; Ossketh was found to have made a false accusation under oath and subjected to the Soul-Binding punishment — exile plus venom-gland branding. Seventeen years later, the supervisor was found dead of an unregistered venom compound. No further investigation was conducted. Ossketh was in Delta-Haven when it happened and has documents proving it.
Daily Life
Ossketh survives on irregular labor at the Delta-Haven docks, using their partial venom-gland function for low-grade poisoning tasks that licensed practitioners will not take — deactivating old Venom-Infused Nets, neutralizing contaminated water channels. They eat when they can afford to. They spend evenings at the waterfront, watching Current-Eels, which they find calming in a way nothing else in their current life provides. They are undergoing partial treatment from Healer Yssara Poisonbloom, which is the only thing they speak about with uncomplicated gratitude.
Secret
Ossketh has a sealed vial of the unregistered compound that killed their former supervisor. They recovered it from the canal two days after the death, before any investigation began. It is identical to the compound they reported their supervisor for synthesizing seventeen years ago. They have never used it, never shown it, and carry it under their wrappings at all times — neither as a weapon nor as evidence, but as the only proof in the world that they were telling the truth.
Story Hooks
- 1 A new wave of unauthorized venom compound incidents occurs across three Naga city-states, all using the same synthesis signature as Ossketh's vial. Someone has reconstructed the formula — or the supervisor had students.
- 2 Council Junior Member Rethiss brings documentation to Ossketh's door: evidence that his parent fabricated witness testimony at the original trial. He wants to submit it to the Council for posthumous exoneration. Ossketh must decide whether justice seventeen years late is worth what it will cost both of them.
Narrative Value
Ossketh is the human cost of Naga institutional corruption — a character whose arc can drive stories about justice, institutional accountability, and what forgiveness means in a society that criminalizes inconvenient truth. Their vial is a physical MacGuffin with legal and political weight.
