Appearance
Physical: Physically the largest Sphinx outside the Sentinel Commander and the oldest generation — forge work over eleven centuries has developed musculature that other Sphinxes find startling at close range. His lion body is a deep warm bronze, scarred on the forepaws and chest from early decades before he perfected his spark-shielding technique.
Clothing: A heavy forge apron of heat-treated stone-leather, replaced every thirty years. He removes it for nothing except formal Council occasions and the annual Riddle-Circle, where he attends in full ceremonial dress, a contrast noted by everyone.
Distinguishing Marks: His third eye runs at a permanently elevated glow — forge temperatures accelerate the magical core, and eleven hundred years of proximity has made the elevation permanent. Other Sphinxes near him report their own magical auras responding slightly to his.
Relationships
- Dyrenna Glasswhisper - His primary materials client — she commissions Echo-Stone tools with specific acoustic properties that require the type of meteoric iron he hand-selects rather than standard stock; he has noticed she never asks where it comes from or whether it is identical to the official supply
- Aundris the Ancient - She visited the forge once, four centuries ago, examined the stamping dies without asking permission or explanation, and left without speaking; he has been thinking about that visit since
- Thresh the Newborn - The youngest Sphinx in the citadels, who wandered into the forge yard at age twelve without authorization and sat watching him work for six hours; Bralux did not send them away; they now appear regularly and he has begun explaining what he is doing, which is more than he has explained to anyone in three centuries

Backstory
Bralux mines, smelts, and stamps every Star-Coin in active circulation — a responsibility he inherited from his bonded partner, who died in a Star-storm three centuries ago while retrieving a meteorite from an unstable peak face. He has never stopped doing the work that was their shared purpose. He is meticulous, physically enormous, and widely regarded as the most dependable Sphinx in the three citadels. He allows no one into the forge during the stamping process. The Spiral of Insight on each coin is not, as officially documented, a standard die — each one is individually carved, and each is slightly different in a pattern Bralux has not explained.
Daily Life
Bralux follows a cycle dictated by meteorite availability: survey expeditions when the solar weather forecast indicates incoming meteoric debris, smelting when material is staged, stamping in the deep forge during the mountain's coldest hours, and distribution through the official currency channels when production is complete. Between production cycles he maintains the forge, catalogs incoming meteorite classifications, and carves dies. He attends the Conclave of Nine as a non-speaking observer and has done so for seven centuries without explaining why.
Secret
Each Star-Coin's unique spiral is not decorative. It is a record: the name of the Sphinx his partner was calling to for help when the Star-storm took them, encoded in the stamp with a cipher Bralux invented and has shared with no one. Every coin in circulation carries one name. There are eleven hundred of them. He does not know whether encoding the name serves any purpose beyond making his grief legible to the world in a form only he can read.
Story Hooks
- 1 A party member receives a Star-Coin in ordinary commerce whose stamp Bralux identifies on sight as one he did not make — a perfect technical replica except for the cipher encoding, which carries different content; he tells the party what it says and asks them to find who made it.
- 2 Bralux asks the party to accompany him on a meteorite retrieval at a site he specifically chose: the exact peak face where his partner died, which he has not returned to in three centuries; he does not explain why now, and does not explain why he wants witnesses.
Narrative Value
Bralux represents grief transmuted into vocation, and the Star-Coin cipher provides a technical mystery with personal stakes. His position as the sole currency forger gives him economic leverage he does not exercise, and the forged coin introduces a counterfeiting or espionage thread.
