Appearance
Physical: Her claws are stained permanently with the mineral pigments used in stone-carving — a rainbow of earthy tones that makes her easily identifiable at any distance. Her lion body is a warm brown-grey the colour of sandstone, and her wings carry faint patterns traced by wind-erosion from decades on exposed cliff faces.
Clothing: Work-worn carving wraps in ochre and rust; she removes them only for the Midday Reflection ritual, when she dons simple temple grey.
Distinguishing Marks: Her human face carries the distant expression of someone most comfortable in conversation with stone. Eyes cycle slowly through rust and ochre. Third eye fixed open wider than is typical, as though perpetually receiving.
Relationships
- Ithara Sanctumhold - The High Keeper values the murals as sacred but privately finds them difficult to interpret. Symneth values the institution that protects her work without requiring her to explain it.
- Faela Starchant - Faela's aurora verse contains imagery matching an unfinished section of Symneth's cliff-face. Symneth has noticed and is waiting for Faela to notice.
- Celynna the Forgotten - The only other Sphinx Symneth considers as old as the things she carves. They have met twice in their combined seven thousand years and found both meetings useful.

Backstory
Symneth began carving the Prophetic Murals at age three hundred when she first experienced what she calls stone-sight — a state in which she perceives the narrative of a stone surface: not its past but its intended future. Other Sphinxes have debated for centuries whether this is prophecy, pattern-recognition, or deep Astro-Glyphic sensitivity translated into visual language. Symneth does not engage with the debate. She has been carving without pause for two thousand years. Three of her murals have depicted civilizational events that subsequently occurred, the most recent predicting the Dragonbinder border skirmishes to the exact season they ended.
Daily Life
Symneth works on the cliff-face from before dawn until the light fails — she does not use artificial light because she claims it changes what she perceives in the stone. She descends for the Midday Reflection ritual and the evening Riddle-Weaving, both of which she considers important for keeping the visual channel clear. She speaks to visitors who seek her out but does not seek visitors herself.
Secret
The most recent section of mural depicts an event Symneth does not recognise — a gathering of beings, some Sphinx some not, at a location that does not exist in the known peaks. It is dated in Glyphic Spiral to next year. Every morning she begins to carve over it. Every morning she stops herself before the image is covered.
Story Hooks
- 1 A section of mural uncovered during a Sanctum renovation shows the faces of the party members at an event that has not yet occurred. Symneth confirms it is genuine prophetic carving and will say nothing except that it is dated.
- 2 Symneth asks outsiders to bring her a fragment of stone from the unrecognised location depicted in the mural she cannot bring herself to destroy — she needs to know if the place exists before she decides whether to finish carving it.
Narrative Value
Symneth is the prophetic fulcrum — she holds the visual destiny of the civilization and provides quest hooks that use prophecy as a driver without making it deterministic. Her unfinished mural creates a ticking clock with player agency at its centre.
