Skills, Professions & Magic
The Sylvan Elves command a school of magic unlike any other in Landorya: Sylvan Magic, a nature-based discipline of profound depth that does not impose the caster's will upon the world but seeks instead to converse with it. At the heart of this practice is Greenspeaking — the ability to commune with living wood and coax it into desired forms through song, whisper, and magical intent. A Sylvan bow is not carved from a tree; it is grown into its perfect shape over decades, the wood retaining its living essence and responding thereafter to its archer's intent. Structures are raised by the same principle, entire homes and halls shaped from living roots and branches without a single nail or axe-stroke.
Beyond Greenspeaking, the Sylvan Elves weave moonlight-woven cloaks that render the wearer nearly invisible against forest shadows, craft bioluminescent lanterns harvested sustainably from luminous forest organisms, and distill extraordinary herbal preparations using apparatus of crystal and bark. Their herbalism is a science as much as an art, grounded in a sense of smell refined enough to identify hundreds of plant species by scent alone. Lyriana Wildheart's current projects include cataloging species not yet formally described and developing preparations effective against diseases that have begun to appear at the forest's southern edges.
The dream-weave arts represent a third major tradition alongside Greenspeaking and herbalism. Practiced most intensely by Luna Mistwalker, the Moon Priestess of the Moonlit Falls, dream-weave work involves deliberate participation in the subtle magical fabric connecting all conscious life in the Eldris Forest. Advanced practitioners can send impressions across the dream-weave, receive prophetic visions, and in rare cases interact with the consciousnesses of trees and other non-animal organisms. Sylvan magic carries grave risks when misused: overexertion can induce Root-Sickness, a horrifying condition in which the caster's body begins to sprout bark and moss, their consciousness slowly merging with the forest until individuality is utterly lost. The Sylvan Council enforces strict arcane regulations to guard against this outcome.
