Geography & Settlements

The Eldris Forest stretches across western Landorya from the cold stone ramparts of the Celestial Mountains in the north to the mist-touched shores near the Shimmering Isles in the southwest — a distance of several hundred leagues traversed by foot, though Sylvan Rangers moving through the canopy cover the distance with remarkable speed. The forest is divided into distinct Groves, each administered by a Grove Warden and possessing its own ecological character, cultural emphasis, and community of inhabitants.

Thornhaven Grove occupies the northern borderlands, where ancient trees thin against the shoulders of the Celestial Mountains. Warden Caelith Frostbark maintains vigilant watch at this frontier against incursions from the mountain passes. To the east lie the river territories of Silverbrook Grove, centered on the confluence of three forest streams and renowned throughout the Eldris Forest for its healer communities and cultivated medicinal herb gardens, where Lyriana Wildheart tends the most comprehensive collection of medicinal plants in the known world. At the forest's dense interior lies Deeproot Grove, the most magically potent and zealously guarded region, surrounding the near-sacred Heart of the Forest. In the southwestern lowlands, perpetual mists rise from underground springs to shroud Misthollow Grove, home to the forest's most reclusive inhabitants and rarest fungi.

At the center of Sylvan civilization stands Heartwood, the capital city built among the boughs of trees so vast their canopies form a continuous ceiling of green above the settlement's walkways and platforms. The Heartwood Council Hall serves as the seat of governance, while the nearby Hall of Memories preserves the unwritten history of the people in tapestries, bark-scrolls, and artifacts. The Songwood district hosts the Grand Amphitheater where Calador Starbow performs the old songs. The Moonlit Falls, a distinct sacred site in the western reaches, serves as both healing sanctuary and site of lunar ritual. Communication across these vast distances is maintained through the Whispering Wind Network, a system in which magically attuned trees relay spoken messages through the rustling of their leaves.
