Geography

The Sanctuary stands on a broad volcanic plateau near the Obsidian Citadel, its five spires arranged in a pentagon around a central gathering hall whose vaulted ceiling is open to the sky at its apex to allow dragon-flight entry for the most sacred ceremonies. Each spire is constructed from a different primary material corresponding to its clan's elemental nature: crimson Ignaelite for the fire spire, water-smoothed basalt for the water spire, uncut granite for the earth spire, hollow wind-channeling obsidian columns for the air spire, and matte Voidsteel panels for the shadow spire.

Climate

The Sanctuary's five-material construction creates unusual internal microclimates. The fire spire's interior runs at temperatures that require heat resistance to tolerate, while the water spire stays mysteriously cool regardless of season. The air spire produces a constant low wind through its hollow columns that drives the ventilation of the central hall. During the Dance of the Five Clans, when practitioners of all five elemental arts perform simultaneously, witnesses report visible manifestations of competing elemental energies in the central hall air.

Points of Interest

  • 📍 The Fire Spire of Ignatius — primary worship tower for fire clan devotees, housing the secondary eternal flame maintained from the Obsidian Citadel's source
  • 📍 The Shadow Spire of Nidhogg — the most restricted spire, accessible only to shadow clan clergy and Obsidian Order members with Seat of Shadows authorization
  • 📍 The Central Gathering Hall — the five-hundred-capacity ceremonial space where the Dance of the Five Clans is performed during major festivals
  • 📍 The Clan Mosaic Floor — an enormous inlaid floor artwork depicting the creation myth in five-elemental iconography, considered the finest decorative work in Drakon
  • 📍 The Tiraveth Altar — the central altar to the dragon mother-goddess, where the annual renewal of the Dragonsoul Pact is formally blessed by the Lord of the Flame

History

The Sanctuary was commissioned by Korathyn Blackfire personally in the decade following the Dragon Schism's resolution, as a physical expression of the principle that the five elemental clans, though distinct, were unified under a single spiritual tradition honoring all forms of dragon power equally. Construction took forty years and drew labor from all five clans, each contributing specialists who worked exclusively on their own clan's spire while collaborating on the central hall. The result is a building that no single clan could have produced alone, which Korathyn intended as a lesson in architecture as well as theology.

Legend & Lore

On the night of the first Festival of Tiraveth celebrated in the completed Sanctuary, witnesses recorded that a dragon of each elemental type appeared simultaneously at the apex of their respective spire and breathed their element upward into the night sky in a display that lasted until dawn. No invitation had been sent; the dragons came of their own accord. Clergy of the Sanctuary teach that Tiraveth herself directed them, that the completion of a place built to honor all five equally was an event the goddess marked with direct acknowledgment. The clergy await, with genuine expectation, a repetition of this event.

Life & Culture

The Five-Spired Sanctuary is staffed year-round by a clergy of flame-priests who maintain the five shrines, conduct daily devotionals in the central hall, and serve as spiritual counselors to Drakonians who seek guidance on matters of draconic theology or clan identity. The Sanctuary's calendar is the basis for the Drakonian civic calendar, with its major festivals dictating the rhythm of the broader year. The Dance of the Five Clans on Tiraveth's festival night draws Drakonians from every settlement in the highlands, and the central hall is the only place where members of different elemental clans traditionally embrace rather than exchange the formal closed-fist greeting.
