Geography

The Spire stands on a natural ice ridge that rises above the surrounding plain, making it one of the highest accessible points in this part of the wastes. A carved stairway spirals up the ridge to the Spire's base, and a second interior stair winds through the tower itself to an open observation platform at its peak.

Climate

Exposed on all sides, the ridge around the Aurora Spire is subject to fierce winds and frequent blizzards. The interior of the Spire is sheltered but unheated, its temperature close to the ambient cold outside — visiting it in winter requires the same cold-resistance the Frostborn bring to any outdoor endeavor.

Points of Interest

  • 📍 The Sky-Reading Platform at the peak, used by Whitepeak Clan shamans to interpret the aurora's patterns
  • 📍 Ice-fresco panels on the Spire's exterior depicting the myth of Aurelia's creation from the aurora
  • 📍 A small offering alcove at the Spire's entrance filled with ice gem pendants left by pilgrims

History

The Aurora Spire was raised by the Whitepeak Clan several centuries ago as a gift to Aurelia following what clan records describe as an exceptionally vivid aurora that lasted nine nights without break — interpreted as a direct blessing. Construction required seven winters, with ice-shapers working only during the brief summer light periods to achieve the precise translucency that makes the color enchantment visible from the exterior. The enchantment itself was set by a coalition of shamans from three clans working in concert, and must be renewed every generation.

Legend & Lore

Frostborn legend holds that on the night Aurelia granted the Frostborn the gift of color vision beyond monochrome ice and snow, she stood atop a spire of ice exactly where the Aurora Spire now rises. Some shamans believe the Spire's location is not coincidental but was identified by the founding shamans through divination — that the ridge itself holds a trace of Aurelia's presence, and the enchantment works so well here because it is drawing on something that was already embedded in the ice.

Life & Culture

The Aurora Spire draws a constant trickle of pilgrims following the Aurora Trail, who climb the ridge, leave offerings, and spend time in the Luminance Chamber in quiet reflection. It is also a working observation post for the Whitepeak Clan's sky-reading shamans, who use the platform to monitor aurora patterns that they believe predict both weather changes and broader shifts in the spiritual balance of the wastes.
