Defined by gentle, undulating hills interspersed with fertile river valleys and broad floodplains fed by the Great River. The terrain is largely open, with clusters of woodland breaking up the endless mosaic of cultivated fields and terraced hillside settlements.

The Central Plains enjoy a mild temperate climate with four distinct seasons, heavy spring rains nourish the crops, warm summers ripen the harvest, and winters bring only a gentle dusting of snow.

The Central Plains have been cultivated by the Halflings since the Celestials breathed life into this Younger Race, shaping the region into the most productive agricultural zone in Landorya. Their abundant grain surpluses have historically sustained the armies of the Human Empire of Azaria during wartime, cementing a vital trade relationship. The plains also serve as neutral ground for peace talks between rival civilizations, giving this pastoral region an outsized role in the politics of the Five Realms.

It is said that when the Celestials first breathed life into the Halflings, they knelt upon the very soil of the Central Plains and wept tears of golden light, and where each tear fell, a river valley formed, already rich with seed and root. Halfling elders whisper that on the longest night of the harvest season, one can still see faint luminous trails drifting just above the floodplains of the Great River, tracing the paths the Celestials walked when they first surveyed their work. Some farmers claim the land itself refuses cruelty: plows driven by anger break, seeds sown in spite refuse to germinate, and any blood deliberately spilled upon the Plains is swallowed so swiftly by the earth that no stain remains by morning. Whether this is blessing or warning, none among the Halflings has ever been eager to test its limits.

Life in the Central Plains moves to the unhurried rhythm of soil and season, at dawn, Halfling farming families emerge from their terraced hillside burrow-homes to tend the vast patchwork of grain fields, orchards, and river-fed vegetable plots that quilt the landscape from horizon to horizon. The midday meal is a communal affair, eaten in the open air at long tables dragged into the meadows, where neighbors trade surplus produce, settle minor disputes with handshakes, and pass clay jugs of honeyed cider brewed from the valley's wild apple groves. Come autumn, the entire region transforms for the Great Tithe Festival, during which overflowing grain-wagons bound for Azarian depots are seen off with song, garland-draped oxen, and elaborate bread-sculptures left at crossroads as offerings of thanks to the Celestials. Peace delegations from rival civilizations are hosted here precisely because the plains' quiet fertility and the Halflings' instinctive hospitality make it nearly impossible for visiting dignitaries to sustain the appetite for war.
