Geography
The Observatory is anchored into the rock of the mist-lands' highest peaks, with instrument towers extending above the normal cloud layer. Its foundations reach deep into the peak's crystalline core, which acts as a natural arcane resonator that amplifies the instruments' sensitivity. A narrow approach path through the rock requires both physical ascent and successful navigation of the protective ward array.
Climate
At the Observatory's altitude, conditions are cold, thin-aired, and frequently stormy. The Ministry of Prophecy maintains climate-buffering enchantments in the working areas, but instrument towers are deliberately left exposed — certain weather configurations interact with the divination instruments in ways that produce predictive data unavailable under stable conditions, a discovery made empirically and not yet fully theorized.

History
The Observatory was established following a documented failure to predict a major planar anomaly that the Ministry of Prophecy later determined would have been detectable at altitude. The subsequent construction was prioritized above all other Conclave projects for the decade it required. The current facility has been continuously modified since its founding, each major divination advance producing new instrument configurations that have transformed what the Ministry can observe and how far ahead they can see it.
Legend & Lore
The oldest instrument in the Observatory — a crystal resonator of uncertain design predating the current facility — has never been fully understood by any Mystaran artificer who has examined it. It produces accurate divination output using principles that contemporary Mystaran theory cannot fully account for, and the Ministry maintains it in operation rather than risk destroying it through analysis. Some theorists believe it was created by Velisandre the Ageless during her final century, when her relationship to time was understood to have shifted in ways her contemporaries could not fully characterize.
Life & Culture
The Observatory is staffed year-round by rotating cadres of senior Diviners and apprentices, on three-month assignments that the Ministry has determined represent the optimal balance between field attunement and protection from the perceptual drift that extended high-altitude divination work produces. During the Convergence Season peak, when celestial significance reaches its annual maximum, the full Ministry contingent may be present simultaneously, operating under conditions of deliberate crowding that practitioners train for as a specific professional skill.
