The Crystal Lake Plateau sits at significant elevation, its edges dropping steeply into the river valleys that surround the Naiad heartlands. The plateau surface is dominated by Lake-Heart, a vast, crystal-clear lake whose remarkable depth and water purity result from a combination of glacial melt inputs and natural filtration through the plateau's underlying limestone and crystal geology. Floating island clusters dot the lake's surface, anchored by Hydro-Lattice cables and connected by crystalline bridges. The under-lake dome habitations extend downward through the thermocline into the lake's illuminated midwater layers.

The altitude produces cooler, crisper air than the lowland river basin, with shorter summers and longer winters during which the plateau's exposed position channels strong winds across the lake surface.
