Geography

The cavern network extends through several kilometres of the Kordilleren's lower mountain mass, accessible from the foothills through three guarded entry points maintained by the Order's mining staff. The chambers vary from narrow passages lit by wall-embedded Aetheric ore to vast vaulted halls where Crystal-Bloom Trees rise twenty metres before their upper branches crystallise into the living rock of the ceiling. Resonance Beetles are numerous throughout, their shells vibrating at the harmonic frequencies naturally produced by the crystal walls and serving as the miners' primary safety indicator for resonance stability.

Climate

The caverns maintain a stable, mild temperature year-round, insulated from surface conditions by the mountain mass and warmed by the Aetheric energy radiating from the ore veins. Humidity is low but not arid, and the air carries a faint mineral sweetness that Order healers attribute to trace concentrations of Celestial Crystal particles suspended in the cave atmosphere. During the annual Bloom Pulse, when Crystal-Bloom Trees simultaneously release a resonance wave, the entire cavern network vibrates audibly for several hours, a phenomenon the Order calls the Mountain's Song.

Points of Interest

History

The caverns were not discovered so much as revealed: the first generation of Celestial Order miners working the Kordilleren foothills found that certain passages responded to resonance-attunement by widening, as though the mountain was permitting access to qualified visitors. The Order formalised this in its Mining Charter, which requires prospective miners to demonstrate basic resonance perception before being licensed to operate in the caverns. The charter has been contested periodically by outside commercial interests seeking access to the Celestial Crystal deposits, but the Order has held the exclusive extraction licence since the first century of its existence.

Legend & Lore

Deep in the cavern network, beyond the licensed extraction zones, there is said to be a chamber that the Order's own records reference as the Seed-Room, where the first Crystal-Bloom Tree grew and from which all subsequent specimens across Landorya supposedly seeded. The Order has never confirmed the Seed-Room's existence in public communications, but initiates at the Resonance Academy are told during their fourth-year Crystal-Work training that the chamber exists and that it produces a resonance so concentrated that unshielded exposure would crystallise a mortal's biological matter permanently. Several graduates have made unofficial attempts to locate it during their Pilgrimage Years, none successfully.

Life & Culture

The caverns support a rotating population of licensed miners and Order monks who alternate extraction shifts with resonance monitoring duties. The Crystal Walk is offered to pilgrims during designated periods, during which the mining operations are paused and the acoustic environment allowed to stabilise for the meditative experience. Crystal-Wing Butterflies, which normally inhabit the Quell-Spitzen valley, occasionally appear in the caverns during the Bloom Pulse, apparently drawn by the resonance wave, and their presence is considered by Order tradition to be an auspicious indicator of that year's crystal quality.
