The Nichts-Zwischenreich has no fixed geography in any sense mortals would recognise. Its interior is an undifferentiated grey field that neither begins nor ends, populated only by the faint luminous outlines of imprisoned entities who have lost most of their coherent form over the long centuries of exile. The realm's borders, where it presses against the mortal plane, produce the Silence Winds that can occasionally be felt near the edges of the Sphere-Forests and along the storm-swept coasts of the Shattered Isles.

There is no climate in the Nichts-Zwischenreich. Observers who have entered briefly through sanctioned Order experiments report total sensory neutrality: no temperature, no air movement, no light beyond the faint outline-glow of imprisoned entities. The experience is described most consistently as standing inside the concept of waiting, with no reference point to determine how long one has been there.

The Nichts-Zwischenreich was not created but revealed during the Celestial Schism, when the war between the divided Celestials tore open a seam in reality and exposed the void that had existed between the cosmos before creation. When the victorious coalition sealed the schism, they used the exposed void as a containment vessel for the defeated forces rather than allowing them to dissipate or recover. The Balancing Edict formally designates the Nichts-Zwischenreich as a sovereign exile territory beyond the jurisdiction of any mortal or divine authority other than the assembled Celestials.

Balance-Wardens stationed at the Starwatch Citadel report that monitoring instruments occasionally register what they categorise as a resonance echo from the Nichts-Zwischenreich, a signal that should be impossible given the realm's total force-absence.
