Appearance
Physical: Of middling Sphinx build, with a lion body of sandy brown and wings stained at the trailing edges from decades of handling raw Celestial Crystal — a faint iridescent blue-green that no grooming removes. His human face is mobile and pleasantly plain, with the evaluating eyes of someone who automatically estimates the value of everything he sees.
Clothing: Practical wind-wing harness rigged for cargo rather than speed, with a dozen pockets in his flight-wrap for sample vials and Star-Coin pouches.
Distinguishing Marks: Eyes cycle between blue-green and pale gold — he claims environmental contamination from crystal handling. Healers claim it is not harmful. He accepts this cheerfully.
Relationships
- Drarux Wingscale - Drarux's Dragonbinder contacts have occasionally provided Zorum access to materials requiring a diplomatic permit. A mutually beneficial arrangement never discussed directly.
- Sera of the Lowland Roads - His most reliable human trade partner and the closest thing to a friend he maintains outside the Peaks. He has never invited her to visit and is no longer certain why.
- Baroth Sunforge - Has been quietly sourcing specific crystal compositions for Baroth's experimental synthesis project. Has not asked what they are for and expects Baroth is grateful for this.

Backstory
Zorum has traveled the air-caravan routes between the Sun-Scarred Peaks, the Elven Forests of Sylvanos, and the Human Lowlands for two and a half centuries, establishing the first reliable Crystal trade contracts with three Elven merchant guilds and two human cities. He is not a scholar or a mage — he is, as he describes himself, the reason the civilization does not run out of Star-Coins. His trade contacts span the continent and represent an intelligence network that the Council periodically attempts to formalize, which Zorum periodically declines because formal networks require reporting.
Daily Life
Zorum is in transit more than he is home — roughly eight months of any year on wind-wing caravan routes. When in the Peaks he spends time in the trade district of Citadel Two reviewing prices, meeting Crystal artisans about supply, and taking small courier commissions that other Sphinxes consider beneath them but which, he has found, carry the most useful information.
Secret
An unidentified buyer has offered triple the standard price for raw, unrefined Celestial Crystal — the kind not processed through the obelisk network. Zorum has declined three times. He is considering his fourth answer. The crystals being requested are used in only one known process, which should be impossible for anyone outside the Peaks to know about.
Story Hooks
- 1 Zorum hires outsiders as caravan guards for a route he will not name in advance. Partway through the journey it becomes clear the cargo is not Celestial Crystal but something he is moving for someone else — something he has not examined.
- 2 Zorum's contact in the Human Lowlands has gone silent after sending a partial message containing coordinates and the words 'wrong crystals.' He cannot investigate without abandoning his current contract and needs outsiders to go in his place.
Narrative Value
Zorum is the civilizational connector — he ties the Sphinxes to the wider world and gives players a practical reason to interact with multiple factions. His mysterious buyer and the wrong-crystals thread connect to a wider conspiracy spanning civilizations.
