Professional Training
- Apprenticeship Model: All professions are learned through guild apprenticeships lasting 50-100 years, combining practical training with water-memory immersion in the guild's archives.
- Cross-Training: Naiads are encouraged to study at least two disciplines—a primary trade and a secondary art or scholarly pursuit—fostering a culture of versatile, well-rounded citizens.
- Master Trials: To achieve Master rank within a guild, a Naiad must complete a Grand Work—a significant original contribution to their field (a new submersible design, a recovered ancient water-memory, a novel healing technique, etc.).
Forbidden & Restricted Magic
- Stagnation Magic: Any spell designed to halt or corrupt the flow of water is strictly forbidden under the Codex of Ripples. Practitioners face exile—the severest punishment in Naiad society.
- Memory Tampering: Altering or erasing water-memories is illegal and considered tantamount to destroying history. Only the Echo Sage Council can authorize memory "redaction" in extreme cases (e.g., memories of traumatic events that cause psychic harm to readers).
- Blood-Water Binding: An ancient, outlawed practice that binds another being's will by infusing their blood with enchanted water. The technique was used by rogue Naiads during the Age of Turbulence and has been suppressed ever since.
