Geography & Settlements
The Shimmering Isles archipelago is a sprawling collection of over ninety named islands and hundreds of smaller islets, reefs, and sea-stacks spread across Landorya's western ocean. The islands range from broad temperate landmasses in the north to small volcanic tropical outcroppings in the south. Their distribution creates a natural network of sheltered channels and deep-harbor bays that have defined Islander settlement patterns since the earliest generations.
Koralheim is the largest and most populous island, home to the central council and the Driftwood Yards — the foremost shipbuilding facility in Landorya. The harbor district of Koralheim is a sensory spectacle: the smell of salt and fresh-cut timber, the ring of caulking mallets, the sight of triple-hulled ocean galleons rising over the dry-dock scaffolding. The island also houses the Temple of the Tides, seat of the Court of the Tidemark, whose floor bears the ancient high-water mark inscription believed to date to the era of the Ocean's Children.
Velashra Atoll, lying to the southeast, is the center of the pearl harvesting industry. Its shallow lagoon is of extraordinary clarity, its bed lined with oyster colonies that produce gems of unusual size due to the magically enriched sediment. Pearl-gatherers at Velashra begin their pre-dawn dives in the cool hours of stillest water. The island's most celebrated resident is Nana Kai Seasinger, the eldest living Islander practitioner of traditional tidal music.
Pearlhaven, a mid-archipelago island known for its elder community, was home to the legendary Elder Mahina who lived to 137. The Stormwatch Lighthouse at Point Perilous on the northern outer islands is maintained by Aurora Tidesinger, guiding ships through the hazardous convergence zone where the Deepcold Current meets the Warm Drift. The Aquatic Research Station at Deepwater Bay hosts Professor Elara Tidereader's ongoing marine biology work. The Abyss Gate, located near the outermost islands, is a place of deep mystical significance where the oldest bloodlines are believed to trace their origins.
