Environmental Protection & Ecology

24.1 Magical Equilibrium Maintenance

The foundational environmental philosophy of Mystaran society: maintaining the balance of magical forces in the land. Every magical working must account for its impact on the ambient arcane energy, ensuring that the ecosystem remains stable. The principle of Arcane Reciprocity
returning to the land what is taken from it
governs all resource extraction and magical practice.

24.2 Mist Stewardship

The mists of Mystara are not merely weather but a living magical phenomenon. The Conclave maintains a dedicated team of Mist-Wardens who monitor the density, composition, and magical charge of the mists, intervening when imbalances threaten. The head of the Mist-Wardens, Thessaly Cloudsong, has served in the role for over a century and is considered the foremost authority on the behavior of the mists.

24.3 Flora and Fauna Protection

Magical creatures and plants are protected by law. The hunting or harvesting of sentient species (Silver Stags, Whisperwood Guardians, unicorns) is strictly forbidden. Even non-sentient magical flora and fauna are subject to conservation regulations.

24.4 Ley Line Monitoring

The ley lines that power Mystara's magical substrate are continuously monitored for disruptions. Any activity that threatens to damage or drain a ley line
whether internal or external
is treated as a matter of the highest urgency. The Ley Watch, a rotating team of Ley Weavers stationed at monitoring posts along each major ley line, maintains a constant vigil and can respond to disruptions within hours.

24.5 Visitor Impact Management

Outsiders who visit Mystara must adhere to strict rules designed to minimize their impact on the magical ecosystem. Visitors are accompanied by guides and are prohibited from performing unauthorized magic or removing any natural material from Mystara.
