Mystarans are slender and ethereal, with pale, almost translucent skin and eyes that glow with inner light. Their hair is often silver or white, and they move with an otherworldly grace that sets them apart from all other races of Landorya. Their features are fine-boned and angular, lending them an appearance that many outsiders describe as hauntingly beautiful
like figures glimpsed in a half-remembered dream. Their stature tends toward the tall and willowy, with males and females displaying little dimorphism in build. In strong magical environments, a faint luminescence may be visible beneath their skin, as though light circulates through their veins alongside blood.
2.2 Psychic Marks
Some Mystarans bear mystical markings or tattoos that seem to shift and change in response to magical currents, reflecting their emotional state or the ambient arcane energy around them. These markings often appear during adolescence and grow more intricate as a Mystaran develops their magical abilities. Known as Psychic Marks or Arcane Glyphs, these patterns are unique to each individual
no two Mystarans display the same configuration. Scholars of other races have attempted to catalogue the marks, but they resist static documentation, shifting whenever observed too closely. The marks are not painful and are considered a sign of strong magical potential. Those rare Mystarans born without them
the so-called Unmarked
are not stigmatized but are recognized as possessing a different, more internalized form of magical expression.
2.3 Lifespan and Reproduction
Mystarans have exceptionally long lifespans, often living several centuries. The oldest recorded Mystaran, Velisandre the Ageless, is said to have lived for over eight hundred years before departing on a final astral journey from which she never returned. Mystarans have low birth rates, and their small, widely dispersed population lives in hidden enclaves throughout the mist-lands. Families are often linked by magical ability, with particular aptitudes and affinities passed down through the generations. A Mystaran child's first display of magical ability
called the Kindling
typically occurs between the ages of five and twelve and is celebrated as one of the most significant events in a family's life.
2.4 Distinctive Traits
The most striking feature of a Mystaran is the luminous quality of their eyes, which intensify in color and brightness when they channel magical energy. Advanced practitioners may develop a faint, shimmering aura visible to the magically sensitive. Their voices carry a resonant, harmonic quality that lends power to spoken incantations. Mystarans possess an innate sensitivity to magical fields that other races must develop through years of training
they can sense ley line currents, detect enchantments, and perceive dimensional thin-spots as naturally as other races perceive temperature or sound.
2.5 Aging and Transformation
Mystaran aging follows a pattern unlike that of any other race. Rather than declining physically, elder Mystarans become progressively more translucent and luminous, as though the boundary between their physical form and the arcane energy they have channeled throughout their lives gradually dissolves. The very oldest Mystarans are said to become partially incorporeal, existing simultaneously in the physical world and on the astral plane. This process, known as the Thinning, is not regarded as deterioration but as a natural evolution
the final stage of a life devoted to transcending the limitations of material existence.
