Geography

The Council Hall is situated within the deep Eldris Forest, its form shaped by the natural growth of ancient trees trained and woven together over centuries into a vast, cathedral-like living chamber. Open to the sky through gaps in the canopy, it blurs the boundary between indoor and outdoor in keeping with Sylvan philosophy.

Climate

Sheltered by the surrounding forest and its own living walls, the Council Hall maintains a still, reverent atmosphere regardless of the season, cool and green in summer, hushed and silver-lit in winter.

History

The Sylvan Council Hall has served as the seat of elven governance since time immemorial, its form evolving slowly as the trees composing it have grown. Here the egalitarian Sylvan Council gathers to make decisions through collective wisdom rather than hierarchy. Legendary figures such as Elenia the Greenweaver and Thalion Swiftarrow are said to have stood within its living walls, and it has served as the venue for what few diplomatic engagements the isolationist Sylvan Elves have extended to other civilizations of Landorya.

Legend & Lore

It is whispered among the Sylvan Elves that the oldest tree forming the Hall's central arch, a vast elder-oak the Lorekepers name Vaëlithor, is no mere plant, but the transfigured body of the first Lorekeeper, who surrendered her mortal form to become the Council's eternal witness. On nights when the moon passes directly through the Hall's open crown, a faint luminescence is said to pulse through Vaëlithor's bark in patterns that trained elven eyes can read as ancient script. Some councilors privately believe these glowing runes still cast votes, and that on at least one occasion, a deadlocked Council was broken by the silent judgment of the tree. Outsiders who have glimpsed the Hall during such nights invariably describe it as "being watched by something vast and patient."

Life & Culture

Sessions of the Sylvan Council are convened at dawn, when light filters through the canopy in shifting golden columns that the elves regard as auspicious, no binding decision may be rendered in darkness. Councilors arrive barefoot as a gesture of communion with the living floor of interwoven roots beneath them, and each member places a green sprig of their home grove upon the central root-table to mark their presence. Between formal assemblies, the Hall serves as a site of communal memory-keeping: scribes transcribe oral histories onto bark-paper pressed from the Hall's own shed wood, maintaining a living archive that grows alongside the structure itself. Rare diplomatic envoys from outside the Eldris Forest are received here with elaborate ceremony, gifts of living cuttings are exchanged, and no iron or steel may cross the Hall's threshold, a law enforced without exception since time beyond reckoning.
