Their unparalleled capacity for celestial foresight — the ability to read coming events in the patterns of the stars — allows them to exert a subtle, often invisible influence on the affairs of ground-level peoples without ever committing to direct intervention. Ambassadorial duties fall to Ilariel Windspeaker, the current Ambassador of the Skies, chosen for diplomatic tact and a nuanced understanding of surface politics. Ilariel maintains a small mission in the Eldorian capital and corresponds regularly with representatives of four other civilizations.

The guardian role that the Aeriels understand themselves to occupy is cosmic in scope: they were created to watch the stars and interpret signs of celestial significance for the benefit of all peoples of Landorya, not merely for themselves. This mandate creates an enduring tension within Aeriel governance between the desire to remain aloof from entangling ground-level politics and the recognition that withholding celestial knowledge at a critical moment may itself constitute a moral failure. The Duskwind Crisis thirty years past sharpened this tension considerably: the crisis was navigated without calling on ground-level assistance, but it was close enough to catastrophe that voices on the Aether Council now argue more openly for deeper cooperation with at least one surface ally.
