Created by the Celestials in the earliest age of the world alongside Dragons, Nereids, and the Sylvan creatures, they were granted dominion over the skies and charged with a singular, sacred duty: to watch the stars and interpret the heavens for the benefit of all peoples. This primordial mandate has not merely shaped their civilization — it has become their very identity. They call themselves Aeriel in both singular and collective usage, though poets and scholars among them favour the older, more lyrical form Caelari, meaning 'sky-born.' To outsiders they are known by many names: Skyfolk, Starwatchers, the Feathered Sages.

The Aeriels prize knowledge above almost all else, and their culture is saturated with reverence for astronomy, celestial pattern, and the vast, indifferent beauty of the night sky. Their mastery of air magic is unrivalled across Landorya, and their command of high-altitude trade routes grants them subtle but considerable geopolitical leverage. Yet theirs is also a civilization shaped by constraint: with a population of only approximately twelve thousand souls — the smallest of any major civilization in Landorya — they cannot afford the expansionist ambitions that define other races.

What the Aeriels lack in numbers they compensate for in accumulated wisdom. Lifespans stretching between three hundred fifty and five hundred years mean that a single Aeriel elder may carry memories spanning centuries of Landoryian history. This depth of perspective fosters a disposition of patience and measured deliberation that outsiders sometimes mistake for aloofness or indifference. In truth, the Aeriels consider themselves custodians rather than rulers, watchers rather than conquerors, and this distinction informs their enduring policy of neutrality — a reluctance to intervene in the affairs of ground-level peoples except when the cosmic balance itself stands threatened.
