Magic & Arcane Infrastructure

The Astrolabe of Astraeus stands as the supreme achievement of Aeriel magical engineering: a building-sized instrument housed in the Celestial Observatory that tracks every known celestial body across Landorya's sky in real time, its great enchanted rings rotating silently through day and night. The Astrolabe is not merely an instrument of observation; it is an active magical system whose movements drive a series of subsidiary calculations — weather projections, tidal forecasts, and long-range event probability assessments — that flow continuously to the Ministry of Celestial Affairs through a network of Resonance Crystals. These paired stones vibrate in sympathy regardless of distance, forming the backbone of Caelum's information network.

The Skyanchor Pylons are the most consequential piece of arcane infrastructure in Caelum: their sustained aeromantic enchantment is the literal foundation of the entire civilization. The enchantments must be renewed by a qualified aeromancer at intervals of no more than fourteen days per pylon, which dictates the minimum size of the aeromantic workforce and the maximum number of islands that can be sustained with Caelum's current population. The Aether Council treats the pylon renewal schedule as classified operational information.

The military application of Celestial Magic falls primarily to the Skyguard and its three wings. The Windwardens conduct patrol and reconnaissance using aeromantic sensitivity to detect intrusions across vast sky corridors. The Stormstrikers, the Skyguard's offensive arm, wield concentrated gales and precisely directed lightning against aerial threats. The Starshield Sentinels maintain the great protective wards around Caelum's perimeter, weaving lumomantic and aeromantic barriers that can deflect or disorient hostile forces. The Windwright Loom that produces sky silk operates on a permanent aeromantic drive, the most complex continuous-operation magical system in Caelum after the Astrolabe itself, and its maintenance requires a team of three certified aeromancers working in rotation at all times.
