The Office of the Herald manages all foreign relations, conducting diplomacy through regular exchanges of heralds and messages with other realms. Eldorian heralds are known for their scrupulous honesty and their gift for finding common ground between parties with divergent interests, making them sought-after mediators in inter-regional disputes. Their word is considered binding, and to violate a pledge made under Eldorian witness is regarded as a grave dishonor in most corners of Landorya.
Beyond diplomacy, the Eldorians understand themselves to hold a guardian role in the wider world. The Sylvan Guard, with its Greenwood Rangers and Druid Wardens, operates not only within Eldoria but along its borders, monitoring for threats to the natural balance that could spread beyond the realm's boundaries. When dark magical forces or ecological catastrophes have threatened neighboring regions, Eldorian ranger units have been known to cross borders to assist — always, they insist, with the consent of local authorities, and always with the stated goal of restoring balance rather than expanding Eldorian influence.
This guardian posture is rooted in the Eldorian founding covenant with the living land. If the forest's health is the Eldorians' responsibility, and if the forest's health depends on the health of the broader world, then responsibility for the broader world follows. This logic, while it has occasionally made Eldorian foreign policy seem paternalistic to outside observers, has more often than not won goodwill: civilizations that have received Eldorian assistance in ecological or magical crises tend to become lasting diplomatic partners.
Current Eldorian foreign policy maintains an open stance toward scholars, traders, and travelers, provided they respect the realm's environmental and cultural protocols. Visitors who violate sacred groves or attempt to harvest magical flora without authorization are subject to the same restorative justice framework applied to Eldorian citizens.
