Architecture & Infrastructure
Eldorian architecture is distinguished by its integration with the living forest. Where most civilizations clear land to build, Eldorian construction practice starts with the existing ecology and shapes around it. The master woodworkers and their druidic partners use a technique called living-growth architecture: saplings of appropriate species are planted at the site of a planned structure and guided over decades by druidic cultivation to grow into the form intended. The result is buildings that are indistinguishable from the forest at a glance but that serve every function of human construction — load-bearing, weather-resistant, and acoustically calibrated to their intended use.
The oldest buildings in Sylvanhaven are hundreds of years old, their living-wood walls still growing slowly outward and their interiors continuously adjusted by generation after generation of woodworkers. The Grand Hall of the Council, the Ministry of Education's great library, and the Office of the Chronicler's crystal-archive tower are all products of this tradition, and all three are considered among the architectural wonders of Landorya.
Urban infrastructure is maintained through a combination of magic and mechanical engineering. Crystal lanterns light the streets of every settlement above a certain size, fed by ambient magical energy collected by rooftop crystal panels. Waste-water is managed through a system of magically filtered channels that return clean water to the rivers from which it was drawn. The steam train network, which connects Sylvanhaven to the regional centers and the major border crossings, represents the most significant infrastructure investment in recent Eldorian history, and its maintenance is funded through a dedicated levy on exported enchanted goods.
Warden Stations — the posts of the Sylvan Guard — are strategically placed throughout the realm to ensure that no point in Eldoria is more than two days' ride from armed ecological and military support. Each station maintains its own crystal-archive node, allowing instant communication with Sylvanhaven via the enchanted messenger network.
