Language & Symbols

The Eldorian language, known as Sylvantongue, is one of the oldest living languages in Landorya. Its spoken form is melodic and richly inflected, with a tonal quality that outside linguists have compared to the sound of wind through old-growth trees — layered, resonant, and capable of carrying multiple meanings simultaneously through shifts in pitch and rhythm. Written Sylvantongue uses a flowing script called Leafscript, whose characters are derived from the branching patterns of Eldoria's native tree species. Each character represents a syllable rather than a letter, and the direction of the branch-curves within each character modifies its meaning contextually.

Common Landoryan serves as the trade language for interactions with other civilizations, and virtually all Eldorians are fluent in it. Within Eldoria, however, Sylvantongue is the language of law, ceremony, and scholarship. Legal documents drafted in Common are considered informal; only those rendered in Sylvantongue carry full ceremonial weight before the Judiciary.

Eldorian symbolism draws heavily on forest imagery. The Great Oak — a tree of legendary age said to have grown at the site of the original covenant — is the realm's primary emblem, appearing on official seals, the monarch's standard, and the badges of guild membership. The phases of the magical season are represented by four interlocking leaf-forms: green-gold for spring, deep emerald for summer, amber for autumn, and pale silver for winter. These seasonal symbols appear in architecture, textile patterns, and the illuminated margins of official documents.

The Sylvan Guard uses a separate heraldic system rooted in animal symbolism. The Greenwood Rangers use the owl as their emblem, the Ironbark Sentinels the stag, the Moonbow Archers the hare, and the Druid Wardens the serpent coiled around a sapling — representing the integration of ancient instinct with living growth. These symbols are embossed on unit armor and painted on the gates of Warden Stations across the realm.
