Geography
Expanses of dark water, floating peat islands, and gnarled root-archways make navigation nearly impossible without fey guidance. Paths through the marshes shift as the Fey will it, and hidden channels connect the wetlands to the moon-lit rivers deeper within the realm.
Climate
The air is perpetually damp and heavy with mist, cool and carrying an earthy, floral undertone. Visibility rarely exceeds a few dozen paces, and sounds are swallowed by the fog, giving the marshes an eerie, muffled quality.

History
The marshes have long functioned as the Fey Court of the Eternal Twilight's most effective deterrent against unwanted incursion from mortal civilizations of Landorya. Historically, diplomatic envoys seeking audience with the Court have had to be personally guided through by fey escorts, reinforcing the Fey's absolute control over who may enter their hidden realms.
Legend & Lore
It is whispered among the marsh-walkers of outer Landorya that the Mist-Shrouded Marshes were not always fog-bound, that once, a mortal cartographer of extraordinary skill mapped every channel and root-archway with perfect accuracy, threatening to unravel the Fey Court's sovereign mystery. In response, the Court sent a being of living fog to breathe upon every path the cartographer had charted, twisting them into new configurations overnight so that the map became a weapon of fatal misdirection. The cartographer, guided by their own false work, was swallowed by the marshes and never recovered, though fey children are said to hear, on still nights, the scratching of a quill somewhere beneath the dark water. To this day, the Fey refer to any map of the marshes as "a fool's last gift."
Life & Culture
Daily existence in the Mist-Shrouded Marshes moves to the rhythm of fog and tide, with fey escorts departing at the liminal hours of dusk and pre-dawn to shepherd permitted visitors along paths that exist only while the guide wills them open. Marsh-dwelling fey maintain the floating peat islands as living waypoints, cultivating rare bioluminescent reeds for light, harvesting the toxic blooms of the bitterbell flower for use in the Court's alchemical stores, and tending root-archways that must be pruned lest they seal shut and strand travelers in waterlogged dead-ends. Rites of passage for young fey of the Eternal Twilight Court involve navigating a stretch of the marshes alone at the deepest fog-hour, armed with nothing but an unchanted lantern; those who emerge are considered ready to serve as escorts or border sentinels. The marshes themselves are treated as sacred infrastructure, neither entirely wild nor fully tamed, and fey who dwell within them speak of the wetland as a living collaborator in the Court's governance rather than mere territory.
