Geography
The Wellspring is a near-circular pool roughly twenty paces across, fed by an underground source that has never run dry in recorded Fey history. Its depth has never been successfully measured: every instrument or probe lowered into it stops returning data at a consistent depth that scholars believe represents not a physical floor but a magical threshold. The pool's surface lies at the exact center of the Silver-Mist Marshes, and the marshes' characteristic bioluminescence and fog originate here, spreading outward from the Veil-energy that the water continuously exhales.
Climate
The immediate vicinity of the Wellspring is perpetually calm regardless of weather elsewhere in the marshes. The fog thickens here rather than dispersing, forming a still dome of silver mist above the pool that serves as a natural shelter for the creatures that gather at its banks. The water temperature is identical to body heat, a fact the Fey consider significant without having yet explained.

History
The Wellspring predates the Fey's own recorded history. The oldest surviving Dream-Weave Archive entry about it refers to it as already ancient when the Covenant was being drafted. Lady Lirael, the oldest living Fey, has stated that the Wellspring was present in the realm before the Celestials placed the first Veil-seed, though she does not elaborate on how she possesses this knowledge. During every crisis in the Court's history, delegations have traveled to the Wellspring not to draw power from it but to observe whether its pulse had changed. No change has ever been recorded.
Legend & Lore
The most sacred Mist-Fey teaching holds that the Silver Wellspring is not a natural feature but the first thought the world had when it became aware of itself: water that formed before anything else existed in which to form it. The Veil-energy it exhales is considered the world's ongoing breathing, and the silence that surrounds it is the world listening to itself think. To speak above a murmur at the Wellspring is considered an act of extraordinary rudeness in every Fey cultural tradition without exception.
Life & Culture
No permanent community lives at the Wellspring, as the Mist-Fey consider habitation here inappropriate to the site's nature. Instead, it is visited in small groups for meditation, for the Rite of the Ever-Gleam preparatory ceremony, and for consultations before major decisions. Lady Lirael visits privately on an irregular schedule that observers have never successfully predicted. Water drawn from the Wellspring is used in small ceremonial quantities in the most significant Fey binding rituals, handled with protocols of reverence equivalent to those applied to the Heart-Stone itself.
