Geography

Situated at the river-landing of Gortha's Landing, the Export Goods district occupies the western bank of the Iron River where the current slows enough for heavy barge loading. Iron-reinforced loading ramps descend to the waterline, and crane-towers mounted with runic pulleys lift the heaviest siege components directly from forge-wagons onto the flat-bottomed trade barges.

Climate

The river valley around Gortha's Landing is temperate compared to the highland forge-cities, with milder winters and damp spring floods that periodically reshape the loading ramps. The district's warehouses are built on elevated stone platforms to protect goods from seasonal inundation.

History

The Export Goods district was established by War-Chief Gortha Three-Scars when he founded Gortha's Landing in 1078 AR as the first permanent Orcish river-trade post. Gortha recognized that Orcish siege-engine expertise could be traded rather than only deployed in war, transforming the confederation's economic standing. Under successive trade agreements — particularly the Iron-Dwarf Accord and the Ember-Pact — the district has grown to handle the bulk of the Orcish nation's foreign revenue.

Legend & Lore

Merchants claim that any bargain struck in the stamping office of Gortha's Landing carries a fragment of Gortha Three-Scars' legendary luck. He is said to have negotiated six trade deals simultaneously in a single afternoon, none of which were ever broken. Stone-Keepers warn that the runic locks on the Steel Vault remember every hand that touches them and have been known to seal permanently around the wrists of those who attempt to tamper without authorization.
