Seasonal Cycle

The Mystaran calendar is organized primarily around celestial and arcane cycles rather than agricultural seasons, though the two are not unrelated. Four principal periods divide the year, each defined by the configuration of Landorya's ley network relative to celestial bodies and the resulting fluctuations in ambient arcane energy within Mystara.

The Convergence Season occurs when ley line activity peaks, typically in late summer by the reckoning of other civilizations, and is marked by dramatically heightened ambient energy, increased frequency of Psychic Mark activity, and a measurable increase in the number of spontaneous Kindlings among Mystaran children. This is the season of greatest magical power, and the Mystarans dedicate it to their most ambitious research, the most complex rituals, and the Festival of Convergence — a civilization-wide celebration in which every settlement participates simultaneously, connected through a network of synchronized Memory Crystal transmissions.

The Veil Season corresponds to autumn and is characterized by thinning between the material world and astral plane — a time when the Thinning in Elder Mystarans visibly accelerates and when the dimensional permeability of the mist-lands increases to its annual maximum. The Veil-Walk Remembrance takes place during this period, honoring all Mystarans who have completed their Thinning transition.

The Still Season is winter — a period of reduced ley line activity, deliberate contemplative withdrawal, and intensive archival work. Major philosophical texts are composed during the Still Season when the reduced arcane background makes prolonged concentration easier. The Night of Kindled Stars falls at the Still Season's midpoint: the one occasion when Mystaran settlements extinguish all artificial light and allow the ambient glyph-glow of the population to serve as the only illumination. The Waking Season returns in spring, bringing renewed energy, the reopening of outer correspondence with other civilizations, and the Night of the Proving — when new Conclave candidates begin their trials.
