Notable Figures & Legends

The memory of Velisandre the Ageless looms over all of Mystaran culture. Dead, or transcended, for an unknown number of generations, she remains the civilization's most potent symbol of what the Mystaran path can ultimately achieve — a life so thoroughly devoted to arcane mastery and philosophical transcendence that the boundary between self and the magical fabric of reality dissolves entirely. Her Crystalline Codex, a Memory Crystal recording of extraordinary scope and depth, is among the most restricted items in the Veil Archives, accessible only to sitting Arch-Sages.

Thalindra Voidweaver, the current Arch-Sage, stands as the most prominent living Mystaran. Her near-century of leadership has been characterized by a disciplined expansion of the Ministry of Arcana's research programs and a notably cautious approach to external engagement. Caelen Mist-Tongue, the Emissary of the Mists, is perhaps the most widely known Mystaran beyond Mystara's borders — a figure of elegant opacity who has represented his people in dealings with multiple civilizations without ever allowing any of them to feel they have gained a genuine understanding of Mystaran intentions. Vorathis Stormveil, Sentinel-Prime of the Arcane Guardians, is spoken of in hushed tones by outside military scholars.

Among other figures of significance: Archmagus Corvus Blackmantle is the head of the Ministry of Planar Affairs, known for his work on dimensional anomaly classification and for having navigated the most dangerous planar breach in recent Mystaran history single-handedly. Elder Seraphina Dawnveil is the civilization's leading Path-Keeper for the First Mystery, whose published theoretical frameworks have shifted the entire direction of temporal research. Magister Oren Truthseeker runs the arcane jurisprudence courts and is considered the finest magical truth-reader of his generation. Luna Starweaver leads the Dream-Walker order. Kira Mistborn is the youngest Conclave member in four centuries. Thessaly Moonweaver is the Memory Spires' chief archivist. Vesper Nightshade heads the Society of the Unmarked. Brother Ptolem of the Veiled Eye is the most well-traveled Mystaran diplomat after Caelen Mist-Tongue. Aldric the Architect designed the current Conclave Sanctum. Velmorath the Unmoored is the civilization's most controversial living theorist, whose claims about the void-spaces challenge foundational assumptions of Mystaran arcane philosophy. Mistress Vex the Unpredictable is a former Arcane Guardian whose methods were too unorthodox for institutional life but whose results were undeniable. Prism the Lightseer and Echo the Memoryseer are celebrated artists whose Memory-Weavings are among the most-accessed works in the public Spire collection. Nyx the Shadowseer is the Arcane Guardians' preeminent intelligence operative. Grandmother Willow is the informal name of an Elder Mystaran in deep Thinning whose spoken pronouncements are considered oracular. Silas the Forgotten is the subject of a famous legal case involving the accidental erasure of an individual's Memory Crystal profile.
