Architecture & Infrastructure

21.1 Design Philosophy

ElementDetails
Design PhilosophyBuildings are shaped by wind and sand, integrating natural desert forms. Structures are partially subterranean for temperature regulation, with wind-catching towers for ventilation.
MaterialsSand-Brick (compressed and magically fused desert sand, extremely durable), Desert Glass (naturally occurring volcanic glass, used for windows and optical instruments), Memory Crystal (embedded in walls for data storage and ambient lighting).

21.2 Iconic Structures

StructureDescription
Sahar-Al-MutaqaddimCapital city, built around the great Astral Dome.
The Memory ObelisksCrystal towers in each oasis-khanate.
The Sealed CryptAncient pre-Scholar ruins.
Qasr al-NujumThe Fortress of Stars, a fortified observatory and watchtower.
The Bridge of WhispersA sand-glass bridge spanning a canyon in the Sunken Valley of Thal-Marek, constructed by Sand-Masons and maintained by Sand-Weave enchantments. It hums when the wind blows through it, producing a tone said to match the desert's own voice.

21.3 Transport Infrastructure

  • Wind-Sail Barges (sand-skimming vessels powered by sails and Sand-Weave propulsion).
  • Caravan Roads (stabilized sand paths maintained by Sand-Weavers).
  • Underground Tunnels (connecting the deep chambers of major oasis cities).
  • The Ashar Relay Road
a recently constructed stabilized path connecting Sahar-Al-Mutaqaddim to the Pillar Fields of Ashar, cutting travel time from twelve days to five.

21.4 Urban Planning

Oasis cities radiate outward from a central well or spring. Inner ring: temples, archives, council halls. Middle ring: residences, schools, workshops. Outer ring: agricultural terraces, Sand Guard barracks, caravan depots. This concentric layout ensures that the most vital resources
water and knowledge
are at the protected center of every settlement.
