14.2 The Sand-Mark System
Sand-Marks come in four denominations:
- Clouded Marks
common currency for daily transactions, made from lower-clarity desert glass. - Clear Marks
medium-value currency used for significant purchases, made from high-clarity glass. - Prismatic Marks
high-value currency that refracts light into rainbow patterns, used for major trade deals. - Star-Marks
the rarest denomination, infused with a trace of Star-Crystal energy, used only for inter-civilizational trade and diplomatic gifts.
14.3 The Artisan Quarter
Every oasis-khanate has an Artisan Quarter
a bustling district of workshops, studios, and market stalls where non-scholarly citizens ply their trades. The most celebrated Artisan Quarter is in Sahar-Al-Mutaqaddim, known as the Souq al-Hiraf (Craft Bazaar), where visitors can watch Sand-Masons at work, purchase Memory Crystal jewelry, or commission custom Chrono-Gears.
