Daily Life

11.1 Morning Rituals

Aeriels start their day by greeting the sun and checking the sky for weather patterns and celestial events. Morning sky watching is an important daily ritual. Families gather on their balconies at first light, wings partially spread to catch the warmth of dawn, and recite a brief invocation to Solaris. Weather observations are noted on personal sky-slates
small crystal tablets that accumulate a year's worth of atmospheric data.

11.2 Scholarly Work

Most Aeriels spend their midday hours studying, researching, or practicing their craft. Each Aeriel contributes to their community through their work, whether that is research, crafting, or magic. The Celestial Academy's libraries and workshops are busiest during midday, when natural light is strongest and the air currents between islands are calmest, making inter-island travel safest.

11.3 Community Gatherings

Afternoons often involve community meetings or social gatherings. Afternoon community meetings involve sharing news and making decisions. These gatherings take place on open-air platforms called windmoots, where any resident may speak. Decisions on local matters are reached by consensus; contentious issues are referred to the island governor or the Aether Council.

11.4 Evening Stargazing

Evenings are spent stargazing and sharing stories. Evening stargazing is both a social activity and a way of honoring the celestial spirits. Some Aeriels specialize in night flying and stellar navigation. As darkness falls, families and friends gather on rooftop terraces, sharing food and drink while elders point out constellations and recount the myths associated with them. Professional astronomers withdraw to the observatories for more rigorous work.

11.5 Celestial Calendar

Aeriel activities are influenced by astronomical events like solstices and meteor showers. Major celestial alignments are celebrated with grand feasts and aerial displays. Aeriels play a vital role in Landorya as keepers of celestial knowledge and masters of air magic. The Aeriel calendar divides the year into 13 lunar months, each named after a constellation, with intercalary days added during solstices and equinoxes.

11.6 Leisure & Recreation

Aeriels love to fly and explore, but always return to their floating home. Social gatherings often involve storytelling, poetry readings, or displays of air magic. Competitive flying is a popular pastime: races through obstacle courses between islands draw large crowds, and the annual Sky Sprint (a grueling long-distance race from Vortex Rock to Starfall Plateau and back) is a major sporting event.

11.7 Cuisine & Fashion

Aeriels wear light, flowing garments suited for flight, often in colors of the sky. Fabrics are predominantly skysilk, prized for its strength, lightness, and ability to hold enchantments. Formal attire includes layered robes with detachable wing-slits, while everyday wear is simpler: fitted tunics and loose trousers secured at the ankles to prevent flapping during flight.

Aeriel cuisine features airy pastries, sky fruits, and drinks infused with dew. Signature dishes include:

DishDescription
Driftblossom CakesLight, spongy pastries flavored with driftbloom nectar and dusted with powdered sky crystal sugar.

Starlight BrothA clear, savory soup made from aethervine stock, cloud mushrooms, and shredded skyfish. Served during evening gatherings.
