Seasonal Cycle

13.1 Overview

The Aeriel year follows a rhythm dictated by celestial events more than by ground-level seasons. Nonetheless, the shifting of winds, the angle of sunlight, and the migration patterns of sky fauna create four recognizable seasons on the floating islands.

13.2 Spring -- The Season of Winds

A time of gentle breezes and blooming sky flowers. Trade routes between islands are refreshed. Young Aeriels undergo their first solo flights. The Windsong Festival honors Zephyrus and the power of the winds with elaborate kites, windchimes, and musical instruments that fill the sky with color and song.

13.3 Summer -- The Season of Stars

The season of warm sun, long days for flying, and the Grand Star Festival. Peak scholarly activity at the Celestial Academy. Clear skies allow for the most detailed celestial observations. The Starfall Symposium gathers scholars, seers, and seekers under the night sky during peak meteor season for intellectual discourse and prophetic visions.

13.4 Autumn -- The Season of Harvest

When the winds grow cooler and the islands prepare for winter storms. A period of harvesting sky fruits and preserving supplies. Communal storytelling intensifies as evenings grow longer. Aeriels conduct maintenance on the enchantments that anchor the floating islands. The Gatherers' Gratitude, a harvest celebration, is held on the first day of autumn.

13.5 Winter -- The Season of Silence

A time of powerful winds and stunning auroras in the night sky. The Moonlight Meditation is practiced during winter full moons. Indoor scholarly work, runic study, and deep celestial observation dominate. The Celestial Convergence ceremonies take place when critical winter constellations align. The Lantern Drift festival, held on the longest night, sees Aeriels release thousands of stormglass lanterns into the sky, commemorating ancestors who have passed beyond the veil.
