Skills, Professions & Magic
17.1 Magical Disciplines
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| Primary Magic | Celestial Magic a rare and powerful form of magic that draws energy from celestial bodies. Used for divination, astral projection, and protective wards. Difficult to control, with potentially severe unintended consequences if misused. High skill is required. Primarily practiced by Aeriels and some Celestial Order members. |
| Astromancy | Divining the future through celestial patterns. |
| Aeromancy | Controlling and manipulating winds. |
| Lumomancy | Wielding and shaping light. |
| Selenomancy | Magic of the moon and tides. |
| Astral Projection | Separating consciousness to traverse the astral plane. |
17.2 Key Aspects & Risks
Key aspects of celestial magic include divination and reading the stars to gain insights, astral projection to explore celestial realms, creating powerful celestial wards for protection, channeling starlight for illumination and magical power, and influencing astronomy-related phenomena like lunar tides.
Seeking mastery of celestial magic is considered a risky pursuit, as uncontrolled celestial forces can lead to calamity. The most infamous cautionary tale concerns Vorath Eclipsewing, a brilliant but reckless astromancer who attempted to harness the energy of a solar eclipse three centuries ago. The resulting magical backlash shattered the island of Old Caelum's Edge, fragments of which still orbit the archipelago as the Shardfield
a ring of dangerous, magic-saturated debris that the Skyguard patrols to this day. Vorath survived but was permanently stripped of magical ability, and their story is recounted to every first-year student at the Celestial Academy as a warning against hubris.

17.4 Training & Advancement
Young Aeriels attend the Celestial Academy. Advanced study involves apprenticeships with master scholars. Learning is often done through hands-on participation in celestial ceremonies rather than formal classroom instruction. Promotion within the Academy follows a system of demonstrated competence: students present original research or a masterwork to a panel of masters, and advancement is granted based on merit alone.
