Social Structure & Interaction
19.1 Hierarchy & Ranks
| Level | Details |
|---|---|
| Archon | Supreme leader of the Aether Council and figurehead of the Aeriel people. Selected for unmatched wisdom. |
| Aether Council | The governing body of elders, each overseeing a specific domain of Aeriel society (celestial affairs, education, defense, etc.). Members are chosen by merit and serve until they step down. |
| Island Governors | Local administrators of individual floating islands, managing day-to-day affairs and reporting to the Council. |
| Master Scholars & Mages | The intellectual elite: master astronomers, celestial mages, and senior researchers who drive innovation and guide policy through their expertise. |
| Artisans & Professionals | Skilled crafters, airship pilots, Skyguard officers, and weather controllers who form the working backbone of Aeriel society. |
| Students & Apprentices | Young Aeriels in training at the Celestial Academy or under the tutelage of master scholars. |
19.2 Family & Kinship
Aeriel families are close-knit and often include multiple generations living together. The family unit is the primary social safety net. Households in Nestward typically accommodate three to four generations, with the eldest members holding advisory authority over household decisions. Childcare is a communal responsibility; while parents are the primary caregivers, extended family and neighbors share the task freely.
19.3 Social Mobility
Based on merit and demonstrated wisdom. Any Aeriel can rise to prominence through scholarly achievement or service to the community. There is no hereditary aristocracy; even the Archon's children must earn their standing through their own accomplishments.
