Community & Knowledge Exchange
18.1 Overview
| Aspect | Details |
|---|---|
| Communal Longhouses | The social and cultural center of each clan. Shared meals, storytelling sessions, decision-making councils, and seasonal celebrations all take place in these large, central gathering spaces. |
| Clan Gatherings | Periodic assemblies where multiple clans come together, typically during the short summer. These gatherings serve as opportunities for trade, dispute resolution, the sharing of news, and the strengthening of inter-clan bonds. |
| Inter-Generational Teaching | Elders play a crucial role as keepers of knowledge, tellers of stories, and advisors. They are responsible for passing on the clan's accumulated wisdom to younger generations through practical instruction and oral tradition. |
| Cross-Civilization Exchange | Strong alliance with Eldorians (trading resources and knowledge). Trade partnership with Dwarves (furs and ice gems for metalwork). Occasional cultural exchanges with visitors. Eldorians trade high-quality metalwork, weapons, and magical items with the Frostborn. |
| Storytellers as Knowledge Network | The storytellers function as a living library, carrying news, legends, histories, and practical knowledge between clans and across generations. Their role is essential to the preservation of Frostborn identity. |
18.2 The Storyteller Tradition
The role of the Storyteller is one of the most honored in Frostborn society. Storytellers undergo years of training, memorizing not just the words of the tales but their precise cadence, rhythm, and emotional inflection. A master Storyteller can recite hundreds of distinct narratives from memory, ranging from brief teaching parables to epic cycles that take multiple nights to complete.
The greatest living Storyteller is Orm Icetongue of the Frosthollow Clan, whose performances at the Klanmot are attended by delegations from every clan. Orm is known for his ability to weave contemporary events into the framework of ancient myths, making the old stories feel perpetually relevant.
18.3 The Frozen Archive
The Frozen Archive near Frosthold represents the Frostborn's most significant concession to written record-keeping. Maintained by a small cadre of rune-literate archivists, it contains ice tablets inscribed with treaty texts, territorial agreements, genealogical records, and transcriptions of the most important oral histories. Access to the Archive is restricted to Elders, Chiefs, and scholars who have received specific permission from the Council.
